Im currently running a hd6950 2gb and im getting the itch to upgrade. Ive been looking at crossfire which means i'd have to buy a new mbo, psu and another gpu costing me round about £350+ altogether. Would this be a good idea or would I be better off spending it on a single card? cheers

Depends on the rest of your system. It seem a bit ridiclous upgrading your mobo just for the sake of a GPU.

If you have £350 to spend, get a GTX 670 or 7970. And sell your 6950, overall you'll only spend about £230.

:)

Whats the specs for the rest of your system

Phenom [email protected]
8gb corsair veangence
corsair gs600

Im a bit worried in case the cpu bottlenecks either a new more powerfull gpu or the crossfire option. I dont know whether i'd be better to go with a gpu upgrade or a cpu upgrade. I did originally plan to go for a k-series i5 but couldnt afford it at the time so I thought i could compensate this buy buying a more powerfull gpu

Sell the 6950 and buy a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-008-VX&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673

or keep the 6950 and buy another when you get some more money.

What PSU do you have?

A corsair gs600 psu. The i5 option with a new gpu does sound like a better idea and i do know someone who will buy my 6950. Thanks for the input

7950 and clock the nuts off it, used 6950>70 CrossFire on a similar 955 4GHz as a stopgap waiting for BD(that got junked for [email protected]) and the scaling was bottlenecked.

If you had a [email protected] or better, then I would have said go CrossFire as you can probably pick up a cheaper route with second hand 6950.

I would be more inclined to try the 7950 in your system first before going for a whole new build though unless you only play mmo's.
