Crossfire....

Right I have a 7970 ... what can i crossfire it with ?

280x ?

Also if i got a faster card how does that work ? Is there any benefits to making sure the clocks match or is it better getting the fastest card i can.

TBH i probably think ill get a couple of 290's but really think i need a few other upgrades so will put off a big spend until i got 20nm

Any views on this, was thinking of buying tomorrow as I think I should get a new car and put off spending loads on GFX

From what I recall, both cards have to be identical to crossfire them (same chip, GRAM and memory bus width)...

You can crossfire a 7970 with any 7970, 7950, R280X and I'm pretty sure even a 7870XT. You can also mix different GPU speeds quite happily, and can even mix memory sizes (but each card will only use the lowest amount - so mixing a 3GB card with a 2GB one will allow each card to use 2GB only).

What about clock speeds, would having a faster 7970 be any benefit ?
