CrossfireX woes

Bought a shiny new XFX HD5870 last week to crossfire with my existing card!
Was playing Assassins' Creed: Brotherhood last night and the game froze!
Great!
Hard reset later it froze after 45secs, it was fine with my original card!
Tried furmark went to a blank screen after 2mins or so!
I put the new XFX in on it's own this morning, and i am greeted with all sorts of problems, Internet explorer constantly crashes, furmark bombs out to a blank screen, then has to be hard reset! Display driver stops responding, then recovers!
The top of the screen flickers as does top of Windows! When I switch on overdrive, at stock settings (I like to manually control the fan speed!) It's artifact city! Could it be the VRAM?
See Images below:
Problem when Overdrive is enabled (at stock - Artifacts can be seen on CCC banner):

looks like you need to RMA the new 5870.
its probably a good idea to put the new 5870 or whatever crossfire card you add in alone and test it throughly so you know the card is good

Yep hindsight is a wonderful thing! always had X2 cards in the past! Oh well, at least I can still game/use the PC. Why would it only get worse when Overdrive is switched on albeit at stock settings?

you could try lowering the memory to see if it is that but it's probably still going to artifact.
i wouldnt keep it though if that works. just get it replaced.

Tried it right down to 600MHz still artifacts with overdrive on! Not so bad with it off, but it's still there!
Just put my original card back into my PC, everything is perfect again!

Get my replacement card today! Turns out the artifacts are caused by faulty VRAM, quite common looking on various forums and also XFX support. Looking forward to getting my CrossfireX setup again over the weekend!

good that you got it sorted out, I can confirm that crossfire is all good in the majority of games, I have only found a couple that show poor performace/graphics glitches and thats due to the game not the crossfire. Happy gaming!
