i bought a crossover cable thats a little too short. is there such thing as a crossover extension? can i get an extra 5-10m extension for my cable?

An RJ45 coupler (high street electronics shop should stock them) and a straight patch cable should do the trick. Don't extend it with another crossover or the crossovers will cancel each other out to leave you with a striaght patch cable.

^^ Sound advice that ^^

The other option is the one I've gone with - one of my mates built me a wee crossover dongle out of an RJ45 socket, about 4 inches of cat 5 and an RJ45 plug on the end. All I have to do is plug it onto the end of a length of straight cat5 and voila, instant crossover cable.
