Hi everyone,

Once every week or so I get a strange thing happen to my monitor:

Could my monitor be about to CRT heaven or could it be a graphics card problem?

Thanks for any help.

Ray.

Thats frame collapse by the look of it.

You leave that on like that for any length of time it will permanently burn the phosphor on the screen.

If it only happens randomly it could well be a dry joint.

A TV repair shop might be able to help.

EDIT: To get an idea if it is a dry joint give it a slap on the side of the case and see if the fault comes or goes. Not very technical but it could prove the fault. :)

Thanks UOcUK Poopscoop for the info. I'll give it a try the next time it happens.

I usually just turn the monitor off and on and its fine.

If it is faulty I think this will be the perfect excuse for me to replace it with an LCD monitor. :D

I had exactly the same problem on an old Panasonic CRT. Solved it the same way too, just turn it off and back on again - worked fine. Seemed to happen every month or so but didn't affect it's operation.

How long has your monitor suffered from this? Has it got better/worse/same?

Thanks MrFunex

STOP THE PRESS.

It's a Mitsubishi dude and there warrantys are second to None. I got a Mitsu from M&M a while back and had some screen shrinkage from the top.
I rang them to find out what i can do and being the second owner i was happy to pay a fee as i thought the warranty was void.
The lovely lady on the phone asked me for my seriel number and then informed me i had 4 months left of a 3year warranty. I said but i am the second owner, she said so. :p
She then took my details and sent out the DHL tickets and arranged for pick up promising it would be back within 5 days.
It was back in 4 days FFS absolutely mint ( strokes monitor lovingly )
The problem is a known problem and easy to fix apparently as long as you catch it early enouth.
Either way Mitsu/NEC honour there warrantys so just get the serial number and ring.

So get on the phone mate and get these wonderful people to sort it totally free of charge.

Without doubt the best warranty experience i have ever had from anyone anywhere.
Although Logitech recently sent me a new momo and told me to bin the other ( yer right ) it was more hassle and i had to make 7 phone calls in all. 4 of which were to Holland. All sorted in the end but i did have to spit my dummy out a bit. :D

Yup same thing happened to my DP930SB last month. After 5mins on the phone they picked it up the next day (tuesday) and i had it back good as new on the thursday. They even cleaned it to :)

Outstanding service.

ray,

Suffered from it for about the last year, it first happened at random one time when the monitor powered up, and only seems to happen when switched on still. It's neither got any worse or any better; I had put it down to the design of the screen. Doesnt really bother me to be honest, I got it at a low price and not really worth repairing. Image quality remains fine.

If the warranties are as good as malc30 says, I'd be tempted to let them have a look at it, as it appears a good quality screen, and if they can fix it free of charge, you're laughing!

is that the one i sold to you? i sold a 22" mitsu here a few months back

if so i had had it replaced once, best customer service ive ever encountered :)

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately I've had the monitor for more than 3 years so the warranty will have expired.

The problem has only appeared in the last couple of months so I hope it will last a few more and then I'll probably replace it.

On the other hand, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to phone up Mitsubishi to see what they say.

Exactly the same problem with my 930sb over last 3 months- my hand hurts from slapping it so often to fix it!

Didnt have my receipt so didnt ring mitisibushi- great to hear they keep up to date with serial numbers !!
