My CRT is about to die, I just spent 30mins hitting it back to life (it's been faulty for a while).

So I need a replacement I would use it for games and nothing much else, I'm using a 17inch crt and sit quite close so I don't need anything bigger than 17-19inch.

I mostly play sims such as GTL,GTR ect and a few FPS, I'm a bit lost with LCD screens and I'm worried about dead pixles.
I pass by OCUK tommorow but would I be better buying by post as you seem to get more rights?
I just hate the thought of being without my PC for a week or so waiting for the damn post.

I have about £250 to spend.

Any advice please while my screen is up.

Sods law I sold my old spare monitor 2weeks back.

If you are after a 4:3 (normal) ratio screen than I'd advise you to look at the viewsonic 19"ers. The vp930 was lauded as one of the best all-rounders and can now be had for around £265 or less if you shop around online. Viewsonic have (I believe) by far and away the best dead pixel cover. I think they're the only company to offer a zero-dead-pixel warranty (only lasts 2 weeks or a months or something but at least you have that guarantee to fall on if things go wrong). You can get a very good 19"er for your budget. :)

wrt to "distance selling" (i.e. online/by post) you get 7 or 14 days (depends on shop) after receiving the goods to decide you don't want the item for whatever reason and can send them back for a refund (you lose any postage costs usually of course). If the item is faulty you can sort out a return and get all your money back. Again I recommend Viewsonic if you want the dead-pixel assurance ;)

Stump up a little bit more cash (still sub £300) and you can get a tasty 20" widescreen

Cheers guys I think I'll buy by post as I've done what was needed on my pc so now I have time to look around.

I'm a tight git so I took my monitor apart and found the problem a loose couple of joints a quick dab of solder and all seems fine for now.
