CRT Fanboy Needs Converting to Panels

Thanks for all the comments.

I'm not a heavy FPS gamer so I may take jamena's advice and go for a TFT and see how I run with the 6600GT for a few months. There is a new Intel chip out so I want to upgrade the GFX card with m/b, CPU and memory at the same time.

One last question, how will the 6600GT perform with DVDs and XviDs using native resolutions on the NEC? Will I expect to see sluggish performance as with games?

you shouldn't have any trouble with video ... divx and xvid etc rely far more on the cpu&ram than the graphics card and even then your system is easily capable of that! Graphics cards require massive power for high speed 3d-rendering, video is simple old 2d :)

p.s. I'm also waiting for conroe to come out and to prove itself and for AM2 to stabilise before I spend money on an upgrade. 939 prices just fell through the floor of course... £93 for an amd 3700+ is rather tempting!

That's good news... because now the NEC is ordered at a rather good price!

Of course the CRT is how behaving flawlessly - but it had it's chance and blew it.

Yep, Conroe is looking good. I hope the prices continue to fall. Looks like it will run cooler too so the opportunity for a silent rig will be greater.

O - M -G !!!

This monitor is gob-smacking superb!

I carried, yep, carried it back home (not even in a dream could I "carry" a CRT a few paces), set it up and it is so super-delicious.

And it just about copes with a 6600GT GFX for my needs... well, until the Conroe upgrade.

The colours and definition are just amazing. I'm well pleased - now I'm a Panel Fanboi!

Thanks again for all the advice!

Ive just had to buy a new TFT this afternoon, my Hitachi finally went after about 4 years, all i did was switch it off when id finished on my PC, and it would'nt turn back on. :(

Still popped out and picked up a Sony job with a 12ms response time and its ******* awesome. :D

Pity my my Hitachi Warranty had just ran out in May. :p
