Hey lads

I'm looking for recommendations on which CRT to buy. I've searched this section of the forum and didn't find much info. Monitors I've been looking at so far are the Dell p1100, p1130 and Compaq P1220. I know the two dell models are well received from users but not too sure about the compaq. I'm also looking for others to look for as naturally CRT monitors are hard to get hold of now.

Thanks :)

Thanks lads :)

Fish do you know of any specific models in the 20+ inch range? I've searched on google and I'm getting a lot of results for small monitors. I'm sure I'll find something though, just curious if you know any off the top off your head. Thanks again for that :)

Yea i hope there's a new tech soon the slim low power crt's.

Same mate. I'm quite surprised LCD monitors have taken off so much tbh.

LCD advantages over a CRT:

- It's slim
- It weighs less
- Consumes less power

CRT advantages over a LCD:

- Picture quality and general performance
- No input lag

Considering I will pay more for less and space isn't an issue, LCD monitors just aren't for me.

That's just my understanding from what I've been reading. In this instance, I'd be glad for someone to prove me wrong :)

Definitely a market for gamers, it just seems a lot of people aren't aware this older technology is superior performance wise (when you compare prices).

fish do you have a particular reason for specifying a NEC or Mitsubishi model using the Diamondtron tube? I've come across a 22" IIyama Vision Master Pro 513 using the diamondtron tube and wondering what you think?

Diamondtron and Trinitron just have a very good reputation that's all. I'm no expert though, it's just things I've heard. The only diamondtron screen I've owned was a Viewsonic P97f+SB which was a very nice monitor, and had the same NEC tube as the 930SB which is regarded as one of the best 19" screens. Most people say the Sony Trinitron tubes are even better though.

Iiyama used to be up there with NEC/Sony but from what I've heard their reputation took a bit of a hit with some faulty screens in their last few years as a CRT manufacturer.

I'm gonna have to go by your word mate! The review sites seem to rate most monitors as good as each other so I find actual user feed-back by far the best. I really appreciate it, cheers.

Urgh that site is pretty poor tbh. They literally had about two 21" in-stock. I e-mailed them for a list of available monitors (which it suggests you do) and get no reply plus their site is down now :(

I've just been reading about the image lose over time. It has put me off getting a second-hand CRT over the bay for the exact reason I can't test her :(

Getting hold of a new CRT is bloody hard though. Thanks for the tip on the "samsung crt 21" AMD but I've had no luck finding a place that stocks them.

*bangs head against wall*

Thanks again for all the replies lads :) I'm getting my paypal account sorted so I can order off the bay :)

I ordered up the P1130 a few days ago :) 45 quid delivered, not too bad :) I will post back my thoughts when she arrives.

Thanks once again to everyone that replied :D
