Hi Guys
been thinking about getting some Crucial Ballistix memory .i know a while back there where some problems with this memory .is that still the case ? they also have very good timings 3-3-3-12 .in fact i think its the same timings as the Tenth Anniversary stuff .

from what im reading on other forums its the same stuff. but about £50 cheaper

Yep, same thing, same rated speed/timings/voltage but without the 'limited edition' heatspreaders.

Gonna give the Ballistix Tracers PC2-5300 3-3-3 I received yesterday (not for me mind, I'm allergic to LEDs...) for the grand discounted sum of £156.50 a spin now. Will report back.

Not bad at all - certainly worth the money (especially given that they're using Micron D9GMH ICs.)
As I'd noted in an earlier now deleted thread ( ), I don't think their performance will be bettered until you hit the £200+ kits.

VDIMM both times set to 2.35V in BIOS (correctly shown in uGuru) with a medium-output 80mm fan over the sticks to cool.
Granted 15mins of Orthos Blend is not an indicator of absolute stability but it will give you some idea of what they'll do:

Look, they're like K.I.T.T from Knightrider but in desktop computer memory form!!

Crucial Ballistix

great Ram Crucial Ballistix PC 5300 rated 12-3-3-3 @2.2V

before i had a Geil Ultra PC 6400 CL4 e not even closer I can get of the values i do now

my system
ASUS p5B de luxe( bios 910)
CPU Xeon Conroe 3050
Ballistix PC 5300 ( 2x512MB)
PSU LC Power Silent 550W

day by day at 3200mhz( 400fsb x 8) all stock voltages, air cooled by intel stock cooler

some overclocking:

480 fsb x 8 with ram 1:1 @ 12-4-4-4 @ 2.30Vdimm

and 520fsb x 7 with ram 1:1 @ 15-5-5-5 @ 2.35V

I think Ballistix PC 5300 uses Micron D9 chip´s
great stuff :)

Looks good there mate .been thinking about getting the ram myself but i cant make my mind up theres some GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 on THIS WEEK ONLY that looks good to and its a very good price as well .what i am thinking is maybe a Gigabyte DS3 or a Asus P5N-E SLi with a E6300 or a E4300 .not sure what to do . which way would you guys go .

would Ballistix PC 5300 be ok for any of the boards i am looking at .or would it be better to get some PC 6400.

Like i said
I have Geil ultra 6400CL4 rated 12-4-4-4 @ 1.9V~ 2.1V (DDR 667), before the Crucial Ballistix PC 5300
Geil is very good but maximum stable is 400 fsb( DDR 800) @ 2.1V
I could overclock them at 500fsb (1:1) DDR 1000 , with 2.2/ 2.3V,but the system was unstable

with the Ballistix PC 5300 ( rated 12-3-3-3 @ 2.2V) i could overclock very easily at 520fsb ( DDR 1040) and the system is stable

so Ballistix PC 5300 is the best for overcloking
PC 5300 means nothing, cause this ram do over DDR 1000( PC 8000) very easy

the only ram to compare with that is Team Xtreem PC 5300 8-3-3-3( both have the same Micron D9GMH chips)

but if you do not plan to overclock the system over 400 fsb, then the Geil Ultra PC 6400 are very good( and fast too at 12-4-4-4)and the price is very good

I just sell my kit of Geil PC 6400,because i want to overclock my system to the maximum

I hope this help your decision :)

PS- also take a look at this, could be helpfull

:) Thanks netby thats a big help mate . ok i am going to go with the Ballistix PC 5300 stuff .now is it worth looking at the E4300 ? i know this chip only needs crap ram to overclock .but as im putting some Ballistix in should i go with the E6300 as i might get a better overclock from the E6300.

I

well is a close call over E6300 and E 4300

normally both are great overclockers
I have a friend who get´s an E4300 overcloked a 100% :)
He uses ASUS P5B de luxe also

but I now other guys who could overclock E6300 at very high levels too

i´m not sure but I think the E4300 have a multiplier of 9 instead of the 8 of the E6300

if that is true then you need less fsb on the board to overclock
example ( 400fsb x 8= 3200mhz or 400fsb x 9 = 3600mhz)
and that could be a great advantage

check that and if this is like I think then maybe the E4300 is a good option

good luck!

sorry to but in guys im a newbie and i dont know how to post my thread on the main page yet.so maybe you can help me,im overclocking my p4 northwood 1.9ghz ive got it to 2.6ghz but i think my mem is lettings me down its 1gb of ddr 266mhz,now there is settings for the timings could you help me sort the fastest timings? how does it work ,is lower timings slower and vice versa or what!!!!!!!also the p4 is a bit laggy and it shouldnt be when its overclocked is it something to do with the net burst arcitecture and thelong pipes?
