Crucial Ballistix Problems

Hi, new to this forum so bare with me.

Memory in question is Crucial Ballistix Tracer RED 4GB

I built a new pc back in feb and ran well for a while running the memory at stock with recomended voltage (2.2v even an extra .04 incase exactly 2.2 wasnt enough), Pc started blue screening a lot all errors pointing to ram. I ran memtest and found lots of errors, RMA'd this with Crucial. The replacement ram i ran memtest on right away and no errors occured, within 1 hour of running it was blue screening so i ram mem test again and lots of errors again. RMA'd this with ocuk, Once again new ram, same situation. Sent RMA but this time OC wouldnt exchange said it wasnt faulty so i got same memory back.

Now i put this back in pc and again after 1 hour of running again its spitting out errors left right and centre. It seems very odd that all memory was faulty which does lead me to believe something else is broke, the only other problem i can think is that my motherboard isnt regulating voltage correctly or the memory slots are broke.

Is there anyway i can test this without purchasing/borrowing more ram? as i dont really want to send this back only for them to say its not faulty and get charged another X amount for fees.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried increasing your NB voltage? What motherboard is it? Also, try with one stick at a time and run memtest on each of them individually.

My crucial ballistix died all the time at 2.2v, now im running them at 1.8v they've been fine for 12months, and overclocked too.

Tried running them at 1.8 for a while with the 2nd set of sticks and was no luck at all.

Specs are as followed (just incase anyone else asks for others)

PSU: Thermaltake ToughPower 850W Modular Power Supply
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tracer RED 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT25664AR804)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail
MB: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
GFX: BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC2 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Will test the sticks individually tomorrow, any other ideas would be great.

Had to RMA my Crucial Ballistix a couple of times, running them at the "recommended 2.2v". When I spoke to the RMA guy the last time, he said to run them at 1.8v. The 2.2v is merely the max voltage tolerance. Currently running my latest pair at 2.0v, will see how long these last.

Willl try running pc with both sticks at 2v if that dont work I will try them separately at 2v. Been bored at work so been doing some reading up and lots of the same posts. Some saying run at lower voltage as they cant even handle 2.2 even though thats what crucial recommend. And lots of people having to RMA them constantly. Thanks for advice all, will come back with results later.

i allways ran my ballistix at 1.8 never had any issues.

i killed many OCZ reaper sticks with increased volts so i jsut left these at the stock 1.8 when i got them.

Been running both mem sticks at 2 V for a good 2 hours now and no errors :) (Usually crash and burns by now) Time for work again see if its alive when i get home in another 7 hours. Will prob tmem test it over night.

make no mistake,if they are already damaged, they are going to fail sooner or later (ramdom restarts,BSOD,etc)no matter what voltage you put on them:)

anyway,a few hours of Memtest86+, is the best way to be sure about the real condition of the sticks

Pc stayed up whislt at work which is a good sign, apparently is nothing wrong with them according to OCuk. Last RMA they said they ran 10 passes of mem test and no errors so i going to believe them for that part.

Right im going to post here first as i dont want to get shouted at for making yet another ballistix problem thread :p

right well ive been happily pottering along with my 4GB 8500 balistix ram (4x1GB) and everything was swell (after having to RMA about 4 sets due to failing the second i had them) and well now one stick from each set has died on me :(

started getting BSODs the past few dayings stating something like:

PAGE_FAULT_NONPAGE_SECTOR or something random like that, when i was trying to install TF2, but then it kept BSODing while booting into vista, not even safemode would work, so ive tested each stick and one from the first batch and one from the second batch are showing lots of errors withing the first 2 tests on memtest.

im currently running on "GB with the one good stick from each batch.

now why would this happen :( ive set the volts and timings correctly, running at stock speed, i did notice though when i was running memtest the sticks were getting pretty damm hot.

should i invest in the ram cooling fans?

also its been about 4 or so months since i bought them from here so im guessing i have to deal with crucial directly, what is there turn around time like? as if its like ocuk ill have to send the lot back so will be ramless.

how hot can the ram run? any tips to help keep the life of them long?

woudl it be worth after i get the RMA'd ram back to sell it and go with a different company??

if i coudl get help asap as i shall be sending the ram off tomorrow :)

that is the true:)
in the futur try to run it with less than 2.0Vdimm

after two dead kits at 2.2Vdimm (more exactly 2.25V ) I used one kit who comes from the RMA for 1 year with 1.95V and I stiil have that kit at 100%

a year ago,the RMA from Crucial.uk,take about 48 hours ( I call them on the phone, get a RMA number ,and send the stuff in the same package i first get it)

what you guys reckon i should do? been looking at the gskil 2x2gb 8500 kit with the red glowing eyes, should i try and sell on my crucial kits once i get them back form crucial? think anyone would buy them after all the problem threads on here?

in my case, I maintain my 2GB kit Ballistyx PC2 5300, as memory back-up ( just in case)
this kit was working for a year with 1.95Vdimm, and is working at 100% (but never gave it more than 1.95V since i put it in the pc)
however as the memory is cheap, bought a kit of Kingston 2GB HyperX 8500-is working for 3 months to 950 mhz with 1.95Vdimm without any problems

Kingston works more cooler than Crucial

Pitch my ten pennies worth in here too.

Bought some new ballistix tracer 4gb (4x1gb) and now am getting bsods left right n centre after 3 weeks of running fine, been that bad its even wiped my ipod clean :(

Not sure how they would sell-the bay would possibly be your best bet.

I have the PC6400 version of that Geil RAM (replaced my Ballistix) and it's great.

The problems are from people putting 2.2 volts through them 24/7 all they need is 1.9.

A lot of people have had them die only putting 1.9-2.0 through them - tho anything over 2.1 will make them die a lot quicker...

Doesn't look like the replacement chips for the D9GMH are much good either - looks like my replacement g.skills 6400Hz kit (single side D9GCT I think) are on the way out already and I only RMA'd the old set in Dec/Jan.
