Hiya all.

ive had this rig well over a 8 months now, and im brassed off about ram it started bsod'n and i couldnt figure out why until i removed one 512mb stick of ram.

now i have 4x512mb sticks due to upgrading sometime ago, its crucial ballistix PC3200 the 2-2-2-8 stuff,

and i removed it and it works fine, now i decided to run memtest, and it shows up that two of the sticks have errors, one had 5, one had thousands, both of these sticks are from two seperate matched pairs.

so i thought hmm ok, ill try putting the decent error free ram in, so i did, straight away BSOD.

ive spoke to crucial they said they would exchange the dodgey ram, but i thought it was just one stick! should i explain the problem, and RMA it all?

Anything that comes in multiple parts you want to RMA you have to send the lot back normally.

They will want the whole RAM kit 99% of the time in most cases probabilly.

Yeah, I'd do it. That way they can all be tested. Maybe try sending them an email or get in contact with someone from Crucial as soon as possible to let them know. They will be more than happy to help I'd imagine.

Am I right in thinking that you have 2 sets 2x512mb of dual channel sets of RAM and that 1 stick of each set are broken?. Also, see the RMA you have submitted, was it just for one stick?, or was it for 1 stick of each set?.

I'm only using 1gb of DDR (2x512mb) and If one stick breaks I send the both sticks and they send a brand new pair of matched dual channel sticks to me.

you got it right the rma email i submitted says only one stick. ill wait for the email back, and then tell them that its not just one stick!

That should sort it out and hopefully you will be replaced quickly :).

Just mention that 1 stick of each set is broken and they should advise you to send both sticks of both sets in to them (Corsair do it this way and my G.Skill haven't needed to be RMA'd (yet).

They should get it back to you fairly soon. I didn't wait long for my replacements.

the 1gb ddr1 ballistix sticks are well renoun for massive failure rates. but 512mb are very very rare indeed for failures. could just be system incompatability or something else.

i really dont think its incompatability issues, i really do think its memory due to the fact it worked perfectly for the best part of a year.

spoke to crucial this morning, gonna replace the sticks for me no problem should be here with me mid next week, if i send today or tomorrow :)

Nice one Neoni :). Companies that offer lifetime warranty are usually quite good when it comes to returns.

aye, thankyou for your help mate, hopefully this stuff should work better, do you think it could be dodgy ram since it is actually coming up with errors and it was working fine on day of purchase? and no configurations or hardware have been changed?
