I've never had the need to use Crucial's RMA service for memory so I hope somebody who has can answer this one for me.

A little while ago I sold some Ballistix Tracer memory on EBay to somebody.
It was won and it was sent out, everything paid for - perfect EBay transaction.
I've since been contacted by the buyer - it must now be about 2 months since the transaction to say that he's been having problems with his PC and Memtest confirms a memory fault.

Will Crucial deal directly with this guy with regards an RMA and getting them swapped?
He of course doesn't have an original order number/invoice from Crucial because I bought the memory from them - not him.
He's contacted me first and asked about getting them swapped.
We could go through all of the hassle of him returning them to me, me contacting Crucial, RMA, send them back...but I'd rather not if Crucial will deal with him direct.

Cheers.

Section 7.C. says only the original buyer has a limited lifetime warranty from the original seller.

As the memory has a limited-lifetime warranty he might not need a recipet as long as he says he bought the memory new.

Hi
i had some Ballistix memory and i had to send it back also. but i had lost the original order number/invoice from ocuk. i called Crucial's free phone number and i talked to a nice girl there who give me a RMA number. she never asked me where i got it from or even if i got it second hand. she just give me the RMA number and told me to send it off to Scotland. i had my new ram back in 3 days.

Now thats what i call service. if they do ask him if he got it new just tell him to say he got it new from where ever. but i don't think they will ask to be honest. this is one of the reasons i always buy Crucial's memory.
:)

I had to return some PC2-6400 Ballistix to Crucial, but I was never asked anything about producing an original receit, just whether I had bought it from Crucial directly, or from a 3rd party retailer....:)

Thanks guys.
I've asked the person who called me to try Crucial direct first and if they give him any hassle then I'll get involved and do the RMA for him.
However it sounds like he should be fine.

The memory I sold him was actually brand new - It had been accidentally ordered in and we just wanted to get our money back for it, so he received it as factory sealed.
So if Crucial do decide to question him all he need say is that he bought it from a 3rd party reseller.

Cheers.

Crucial are an amazing company, run extremely efficiently as well! Shame more companies aren't like this :(

Just heard back from the person who I sold the memory to via EBay.
He contacted Crucial, they were more than happy to deal with him direct.
They weren't fussed about the lack of receipt or the fact he bought them over EBay and they are sorting him out.

The only other time I've personally used Crucial Support was back in the days of the ATI 9700 graphics card.
I had problems because I had one of their 9700 Pro's but also had the Granite Bay chipset motherboard and as some people may remember there was a major incompatability issue.
Even though the card was 7 months old they agreed to take it off me and swapepd it for a 9800 Pro and I only had to pay £10.

Can't fault their service really.

The only difference between the PC5300 and PC6400 Ballistix is the sticker.
