After hearing about the new Cryorig C7G I thought one would be perfect for the upcoming Dr Zaber Sentry 2.0.

8-12c Ryzen in a SFF console case - yes please :D

Was just wondering if anyone else has ordered one or has had the chance to try it?
 
I haven't tried the cooler, but I remember Hardware Unboxed saying the original Cryorig C7 had a really noisy fan. Hope you don't experience that on your new version.

Or is the Noctua fan in the photo going to replace the stock Cryorig fan?

Thanks. Fortunately the C7G comes with both 14mm and 25mm fan clips so my plan is to ditch the stock fan and replace it with the NF-A9x14 in the photo.

One thing that didn’t occur to me until yesterday is the Noctua fan comes in two variations even though both have the same part number. The L9i included A9x14 fan is 2500rpm while the one in the photo above is 2200. Noctua don’t seem to sell the 2500rpm version separately so I’m hoping it doesn’t make too much difference.

I’m also hoping Noctua release the chromax (Black) 92mm series later this year as the brown and creme colour scheme doesn’t do much for me lol. Almost seems a shame to put one on such a nice looking cooler.

Didn't realise there were different versions of the A9x14, despite having the same part number. I'm only guessing, but I think the size and composition of the heatsink would be the main limiting factor on these low profile coolers, rather than the extra 300RPM of the fan.

It adds 1mm to the overall height of the cooler (48mm) which isn’t much but i’m limited to 47mm in the Sentry. With being so close to the side panel i’m hoping in terms of noise, air flow turbulence isn’t too much of an issue.

Yep it threw me when I realised Noctua have two versions of what is essentially the same fan. What I’ve read from the testing done on the SFF forum is the extra 300rpm makes approximately 3c difference to load temps when both are compared on the same cooler. I’m not sure my OCD will let me settle now I know that, even though 3c isn’t a massive difference :o

Noctua showcased the new chromax 200mm - 80mm range this year at Computex so hopefully we’ll see them available for sale shortly. I can’t imagine they’ll sell many brown and creme fans once they hit the market lol.
 
I think it's well worth getting a C7 fan adapter printed or buy one and mount fan pulling air away from motherboard .. you will also need a 92mm fan for it, Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM is probably the best.

I've found that turning the fan over to draw air up through cooler instead of pushing down into cooler give significantly lower temps.

Reason is pushing air down into cooler means it hits mobo turning out and hits RAM, GPU, etc. turning up along side of cooler and fan and drawn back into fan. This means air temp into cooler can easily be 8c hotter after going through cooler a few times. Below is link showing the difference on AXP-100 between pushing air toward and pulling air away from motherboard:

Interesting stuff. I was just reading yesterday it’s best to rotate the C7 90 degrees so the open sides face the top and bottom of your case and the closed ends face the RAM and IO backplate. I’m thinking with the fan being so close to the case panel, having it upside down won’t be an option. I’ll need to give it a try and see how noisy it is.

With having the same recess for the clips, hopefully current owners can now order them separately.

Saying that, there appears to be a online rumour circulating suggesting Cryorig are going out of business.

Hopefully it isn’t true but maybe best to act quick if you want a Cryorig cooler or parts.

Not sure if that would be true. Much would depend on how close GPU is to cooler.

I’m not 100% to be honest, I’ll need to have another look at the mount and see if it’s doable. I don’t suppose it’ll be an issue with most intel boards providing there’s enough clearance between the socket and VRM.

I don’t have the case yet but it’s the Dr Zaber Sentry 2.0 so 47mm is the max height of the cooler. 1-2mm clearance between the fan and the side panel. I’m thinking blowing air against the perforated side may be noisier but without trying it’s hard to say.
 
For Intel, yeah I think so too.

I'd be keen to know your thoughts on the cooling performance of the C7G. I've actually got the L9i with the free AM4 mount sitting in their boxes waiting to be installed. I'd imagine the C7G would perform better since it does have a slightly beefier heatsink.

If I have time this week I’ll mount it up on my 3770k and let you know how I get on. It can do 5GHz with 1.28v so should be a good test for the C7G.

Kinda wish I had the C7 bare copper version too so I could do I direct comparison and see how much difference the Graphene coating makes.

That's very kind of you. Please don't go out of your way though, I'm sure there'll be some reviews/comparisons popping up on the internet in due course.

I saw that guy's YouTube video of the same article and the L9a did seem to have slightly better performance. Seems to make sense since the surface area of the L9a looks larger than that of L9i.
 
Copper coolers trend to oxidize with age. Graphene won't. So to me for same cooling ability graphene coating is better than copper.
 
Disappointing there isn’t any difference between the C7G and the OG copper.

Still though, it looks awesome so it has that going for it (until you slap a Noctua fan on it)

I’m thinking it’ll still do nicely with a 3700x.
