Not having played through the game yet, as was waiting on my 2nd 5870 arriving. Anyhow, after installing it I was getting an issue with bright textures seemingly flickering. Apparantly it is a known issue with crossfire.

Anyway, I downloaded the advanced graphics option program and set everything to extreme (it was already set to extreme in game).

Once I loaded it up, it played through the section with the submarine sailing through the water and then as soon as it went inside the submarine and the other NPC's are on screen the frame rate basically dropped from a constant 60 fps as it had been before I messed aroud with the advanced graphics options, to bouncing around the 30 fps. So I immediately quit and deleted the autoexec.cfg file that had been created. However, no matter what I do now as soon as it goes from the black screen to my NPC's appearing on screen my FPS pretty much halves. Even with v-sync off the framerate drops considerably and is noticabley very laggy.

I cannot understand what has happened. As I thought removing the autoexec.cfg would return things to normal.

It is the steam version of the game. I am on the verge of deleting it and re-downloading, but loathe to download 10 GB for the sake of it.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just deleting the autoexec.cfg won't help sometimes, because some settings will be saved regardless of if you delete the .cfg or not.

Try deleting all your settings files, from my documents and inside the steam folder, see if that helps.

Full specs:

Gigabyte EX58-UD5
i7 920 @ 4GHz (overclockers pre-overclocked bundle)
6GB DDR 3
Crossfired 5870's

Will try validating game cache tomorrow after work. Cheers for help.

According to this dudes video, using the advanced config utility and wacking everything up to maximum, there isnt a home computer that can do this in existance....

Lol, well that explains it. Steam did an update at 21:07 this evening (42 MB) and I validated the files and everything seems to be back to normal, so either the validation or update seems to have fixed the problem.
