Hi Guys,

Was just wondering, i have a dell 30 inch and was wondering what type of pc if even possible you would need in order to be able to play CRYSIS at 2560x1600 as this is the monitors native res and if i play it at any lower res it looks crap.

If not possible, does anyone have a solution for me ?

My current rig -

Q6600
Asus Maximus Formula
Asus silent knight 2 cpu cooler
Antec 900 gaming case
4gb DDR2 PC8500 Crucial Ballistix Tracer Ram
ATI Radeon 3870X2 (2 gpu on 1 card)
WD raptor HD

Thanks!

Well i think your pc would struggle, it also depends at what detail level you would like to play at. If your happy with medium you may just scrape though but i doubt it, High is absoloutly out of the question i think.
You could tweak the setting between high and low on all to try and get the best looks/performance your happy with but as it goes your pc is a pretty high end affair as is, and with crysis utilizing Xfire/SLI so badly dual card setup's arnt really of any majour gain to this particular game.

Alas.. there is no solution, even 3 8800 Ultras in SLI will not give a good framerate at that resolution

you would have to wait for new cards that are much ahead of what we have now, or some magic patch.

bah! thats what i thought, its such a pain in the a$$, maybe i should invest in a nice small 24 inch dell or something? The only thing then would be i would end up not using my 30 inch thus making it a bit of a waste of money and i think i would miss such good clarity...

The last thing i would do in any one's case, regardless of money or ease is buy to play crysis, the games is a hardware hore and nothing you do will satisfy its needs.
24" monitor would still need serious power to drive it with that game, a GTX would just about cut the musterd for medium i think on a 24" @ native.
The point i made earlier about Xfire is that it doesnt do a lot in a game like crysis so effectivly your running a single card setup and a single 3870 wont run crysis on a 24" monitor at specs your going to be happy with having spent so much to play the game.
I know this isnt exactly good news for you but Crysis has a way of kicking you when your down ;)

ok cool thanks dude, you just stopped me spending a put load of my money again, il stick with my 30 inch dell and put up with lag, il just have to play COD4 which seems to run fine with all settings on max. Also WoW runs fine and looks so good at 2560x1600 so il just get rid of crysis :D

Why not just use a lower res? Sure it looks less sharp and more pixelated but once you've been playing the game for five minutes you stop noticing it. There's more to games than just visuals. Dell screens have good scalers usually too.

If you've already bought it you may as well play it, it's not very long and it's well worth experiencing.

i guess it should play on medium kk later on you can get another 3870x2 may increase performance but im not sure as crysis not really sees any improvement by using more then 2 cards maybe they fix it later on

All on medium it should fly, and medium does not look that good anyway. Just sell crymark07 whilst you can, it's only a benchmark.

the scaller in the monitor must suck, even though i have still got everything on high as soon as i turn down the res it sux donkey balls and looks soooo bad, i have found it doesnt look as bad though on my samsung 46" LCD tv at HD res... The scaller in the monitor must suck ! Bit of a pain having to switch between monitor and TV though due to ATI's great drivers...

you may be able to play it at that res soon, seems crysis has some memory bug at that resolution which is probably why all the hardware sites only bench it at 1920x1200, although having said that i think i remember that being to do with nvidia and possibly sli

@turboduck, is it the Dell 3008WFP you got or Dell 3007WFP? if its the 3008WFP, are you sure you`ve got the screen set up properly, because there`s a guy with the same screen as you in this thread below, and is the topic starter, that says the screens scaller works perfectly fine for him.

He has also posted a closeup screenshot from his camera of crysis running at low resolution of 1680x1050 on his Dell 3008WFP, and it looks fine.

I have to say mate with that spec it wont be possible, even with me running SLI 8800's it barely managed. I tun it at 1650*1080 (or there abouts can't remember the exact res from top of my head).

Hate to be a ****, should have got the dell 27" version, try it on 1900x1200, turn to medium. you've shelled out some dosh there mate. bloody crysis. dream shatterer...lol

Some advice: You may find that 1280x800 res actually looks OK on that screen, and should be playable on a 3870x2.

The reason for this is that it will use exactly 4 monitor pixels for one game pixel. This means that although the image will get stretched, it will be a 'perfect' stretch i.e. there will be no need for 'rounding' the image at places where a game pixel doesn't fall exactly in line with a screen pixel (as you might observe using e.g. 1920x1200 or 1680x1050). It will of course look slightly blockier than you are used to, but the actual imagie itself will not be distorted.

i have the Dell 3008WFP, at 2560x1600 on max quality i get a stonking 4fps! on my 8800GTX.

medium settings with no anti-aliasing isn't too bad, but meh..

this game seems to run better on 1920x1200 with med/high settings.

incidentally, the scaling looks perfectly fine to me with the 3008 on 1920x1600, - granted it doesn't look 100% perfect! but it's still pretty damn good.
