Have you patched it?
Are you trying to use a No DVD .exe?
Edit: To give a better answer. On my system the game works fine in 64-bit mode as long as I have the original disc in the tray. If I try to use a No DVD crack then I get the black scree and it crashes.
This seems to be happening because something is stiopping the program from being the active window even though it's still taking up the full screen. A workaround is having task manager opened when launching the game and then quickly switching back to it from task manager when the black screen comes up
