just started to play crysis. My rig is

Q6600 at 3.6ghz
4GB Ram
GTX 260 overclocked (216)
res im playing at is 1920x1080

Playing on high my FPS is dipping to 25's is there a config that retians the good looks but improves perfomances?

I have seen a few on sites but i was wondering what you what you actualy recommend?

Lowering my res to 1650 x 1050 (i think its that) doesnt realy make a slight difference and just makes the colours of the game go way to contrasted.

Thanks

I'd say that rig will offer a very smooth experience on medium, but a jittery experience on high settings. If I was you I'd just spend an hour or so playing with each of the settings and see what gives the best balance between looks and FPS. Have you got AA switched on?

Na its off. Considering it only going into 25 on fights (normaly 32-34) on high im thinking a custom config might push it up a few frames more so i dont need to game on medium.

If it's only going down to 25 on fights then you'll need to turn some settings down at least. Good idea on turning off the AA at higher resolutions because you won't need it. There's a decent webpage explaining a few of the config commands here. There's no quick fix and I haven't needed to alter the config file myself. I've just used a combination of in game settings and Nvidia Control Panel adjustments to get the balance of FPS and graphical quality that I want.

If you ever buy CustomPC you'll see that even absolute monster rigs that cost upwards of £3000 can't run Crysis at it's full settings and I'd say that you will need to turn some of your settings down. With that spec you won't be able to just run everything on high as is, your FPS is proving that any time there's some sort of proper action on screen.

Yeah, I get that too. I'm currently playing it on high @ 1920x1080. When there's not too much happening it can fluctuate between 32 and 50fps, but when there's a lot of activity it dips down into the 20's. Though to be honest, I barely notice it, it never gets laggy, always extremely smooth and playable. You could try putting AA to 0 if it isn't already, hardly makes a significant visual difference tbh. Also, close down as many other things as possible on your pc that may be running in the background. May also help to reboot the computer before booting up the game.

Try out the CCC pack here in the forums. I managed to play it through on the system in my sig except i had a GTX260 (192 cores) at the time.

I managed to get image quality that was very near to Ultra, playing in DX9 with min fps of above 30. It took a little playing about with the configs, making my own adjustments but i thought it looked amazing, you got the sun rays etc. and i thoroughly enjoyed my play through. Only the later level inside the mountain slowed to below 30fps, but i just dropped the detail for that level.

Do you actually notice a difference? 25ish might be a bit too low but I find crysis deals pretty well with low framerates with things like motion blur... Do you have that turned on?

If it is a bit jittery just turn down a couple of settings... I tried using a custom config once in dx9, looked pretty good but screwed up in some areas (jungle, in the dark, couldn't see a thing). Now using dx10 and it looks just as good without the problems.
