Crysis crashing at a certain point

Been playing through Crysis (Steam version) all day and I'm at the point where...

you have to fly the VTOL to the aircraft carrier.

However, when I get near it, the game crashes to desktop. Tried it a few times now and still can't complete the level.

What could be the problem?

Specs are:

i7-2670QM
4GB
3GB 555M

Pretty awesome game so far, until now.

I had a similar problem when {I played it for the first time and iirc I had to change it to dx9 mode and then it was ok, you could try that.

I had the same thing, but I somehow got around the bug by beating the other VTOLs to the 'finish'. Didn't know about the dx9 mode trick.
