Crysis defaulted

Hi all
I am about an hour into this game and am really enjoying it.
I just thought I would continue the game tonight for a couple of hours but when I started the game the whole thing has defaulted. There are no profiles no saved games even the graphics and controls have defaulted

Has anyone ells had this problem or could it be something with my HDD as its made a couple of strange whining noises recently.

as a random thought have you changed users in your OS or anything like that?

Im the only person who uses the pc and so I dont have profiles in window.
I only set up one profile in the game. Its worked fine for about a week untill it suddenly defaulted. I have changed nothing.
Its so strange
