In my experience the only people who thought half life 2 was a letdown are generally people who wanted the story spoonfed to them. I actually liked the way valve did the story, loads of hints in pictures and dialogue, would make no sense that a character would walk upto you and tell you all about whats happened, seeing as the world has surrendered they obviously think you've lived through the exact same events and know whats going on.

or they just thought it was too short, too linear, puzzles were easy, fighting alonside allies through the houses was annoying, and the enemy AI was just shocking, compared to the tech demos they released and I still think HL1 had better AI.

Playing it again with my new rig - graphics maxed out - I have to admit the graphics are the best, especially the facial expressions - and the physics were always fun.

Overall I would give it 8/10. After playing HL1 again it definitely gets 9.5/10.
