Crysis demo

I'm currently downloading a 1.8GB demo of crysis. I want to finally check it out as everyone says this is the benchmark game for testing your rig. What kind of settings and what kind of framerate can I expect with my sig rig? What kind of framerate determines if you have a good rig, at least, on reasonably high settings? And is fraps good enough to check framerate?

With crysis anything over 30fps is playable.

I'd say with your rig you should be able to use Enthusiast settings. And yes fraps is what most people use to check framerates.

Thanks. Ok, been using fraps to check framerate in tomb raider underworld, so I'll use it for crysis. Is enthusiast settings equivalent to medium or fairly high settings, and does this mean I'll see the graphics pretty much as intended or will I be missing out on much detail? I presume 60fps with everything maxed out is what the top ninja rigs achieve ?

I had to re-install Crysis, having got used to it with the CCC and ToD modifications - when I loaded it up 'vanilla' i thought it looked bland and washed-out

i see the ccc stuff on there is the tod part of it? is this for crysis warhead only?

Enthusiast is pretty much highest IIRC. Only played the demo ages ago myself.

Not sure I agree about the 'over 30fps and its playable' thing.
I guess I'm too fussy, but I couldn't stomach it and uninstalled it

Guys, I tried out the demo. Probably overly ambitious, but I set the game res to 1920x1080. Everything was on HIGH, as chosen by the game optimiser, not me. Although the res was set to 1024 before I changed it.
Very smooth, no lag, no jerkiness. However, typing r_displayinfo 1 into the console, it shows pretty low framerate. Standing in one area showed 30fps, but as soon as I started moving it dropped considerably below that, down to 20 and often lower. Considering how good it looks and how smooth (I was expecting a slideshow), it surprised me the framerate isn't higher. So it's very playable right now. Anyway, what would be best to get nearer to 30fps? Take down the res first? Or leave the res and take down some of the settings that are on high? Putting 2 x AA on or leaving it off didn't make a whole lot of difference to framerate.

With your card AA shouldn't really cause much of a drop.

Crysis uses a very could motion blur that really makes low framerates (that's why I said 30) look good.

TV displays at 24fps but because of the natural motion blur from the camera it looks perfectly smooth.

When I played the demo it ran at 15-20fps on my 2900XT but it was still well playable. Though maybe not online. It would probably feel a bit clunky then.

Woah, all of a sudden, I'm now getting much higher framerate between 30 and 40fps, going no lower than about 27fps when it gets busy. Yesterday I was getting 15 to 20fps. I'm still on 1920x1080 and high settings. No AA.

i'd say anything over 25fps makes crysis playable in most places but more frames would be nice
