Crysis doesn't look all that good...

Hi chaps.
Quick question,
Is it just me, or does Crysis not look all that good?
I've got a pretty high end rig especially when you consider Crysis was out in 2007, and I've got everything set on Ultra High at 1920x1080 resolution...
and apart from a few bits where it slows down when there's lots to draw, it does pretty okay...

Only it just doesn't look as good as I'd expected?
The start of the game, the dark, the sky, water, foliage, weapons and suit detailing is excellent,
but the sun came up and the daytime levels, sea, foliage and especially characters just don't look that great...

Is it just me? Is my rig missing something, or should I get some mods on the go?
Don't get me wrong, I think it looks good, no disrespect to any Crysis fans.
But it's just not as good as I thought it would be...
 
The game was released in 2007 and you're never going to get photorealism.
Your expectations are to blame.
Try some mods.
There are few (or no?) games which look as good as Crysis, and this is coming from someone who didn't even like the game much :p
 
Imo it's a title with some excellent graphics that rival anything, though there are some textures that look in comparison to be of a lower class. Not poor, just substantially lower. However, as mentioned there are mods available, and going by some of what I've read they should make a big difference. Try one of those out.

Its looks good but not always perfect from every angle. Its still a game and they arent close enough to photorealism yet but I reckon modern games sometimes come close crysis included. That wasnt true 5 years ago

Make sure you're not playing on low IQ settings or 800x600 res.:o something aint right if you think crysis maxed out looks average.
 
I tried playing through crysis recently and was underwhelmed, I tried running xtreme fx 2 mod too which is meant to be ultra settings and a load of extra new particle effects but it just wasn't that great an experience, It looked pretty pap in places,

The witcher 2 looks way better, I don't know why that doesn't get more praise
 
get yourself the HD foliage mod, a time of day mod and a custom config to get yourself some extra FPS to play with. you should be a much happier bunny after that
 
Thanks guys, I'm on it.
The main thing is that the foliage looks cheap somehow, don't know what I mean exactly but it's just a bit plasticky and false compared to the rest of the world especially the water and ground.
Not saying I could programme better though... haha.
And yes I did a double take when I read the case... 2007? Madness.
Can't wait for all the Crysis 2 mods haha, my rig won't take it though! Unless I CF another 5870 maybe but I'm gonna go for an OCUK built rig with a 580 or two
 
What I liked about Crysis was the way the day wore on as you got to each new level, from sunset to dusk to night. There was one misty forest area at night where you could see the enemy laser sights that was just hugely atmospheric.
