Crysis + HDTV Refresh Rate Issues - now Fixed

I've hooked up my PC to my new HDTV(Tosh 32XV555DB) and am having some issues with Crysis Warhead/Wars.

The game sets the screen 24hz when I run it at 1080p, and is choppy with VSync enabled and has tearing without.

I cant seem to force 60hz. I've tried RefreshLock, but it doesnt work, the game still runs at 24hz. Does anyone know a command line option to force 60hz, or can I do it in the drivers?

I'm using a GTX280 and DVI-HDMI.

I have this exact same TV, and it does work with 1080p @ 60hz. Have you got the right driver for the display installed? It should come on automatically. I should imagine there is a videomode setting in crysis and you can edit the refresh. Might be worth a gander over to incrysis forums?

Hi,

Vista is just reporting the display as a Generic PnP Monitor. Is there a specific driver available for this display?

The desktop runs fine at 60hz, so I cant work out why Crysis Warhead/Wars is defaulting to 24hz.

Well it's attached to my XP HTPC, and that detects it as TOSHIBA TV or something along those lines, so I assume it has a profile of sorts. This is in the ATI CCC. I'm not with the HTPC atm, so I can't check windows, but it's definitely not generic.

Can other games run ok or is it just crysis? As I said above, i'd check the settings files (not sure if it's .ini or similar for crysis) and see if you can force refresh rate that way.

Other games run fine at 1080p@60hz, just tried CS:S and it was perfect, VSync capping the framerate at 60 perfectly.

NV Control panel detects the TV as a Toshiba TV, where as windows just shows it as a Generic PnP Monitor.

I've put a post on Incrysis, hopefully they'll be able to point me in the right direction as I cant find a cvar anywhere which sets the refresh rate.

Sounds similar to what happens on my ATI CCC. Let's hope you can get a reply from them, the users of the forum aren't all as knowledgeable as the people here, but there is probably someone that knows.

Okay, so after some googling i've come up with 3 possible solutions for you..

1) DX9 - apparently running crysis in dx9 doesn't have this problem. I have yet to find an option/cvar for changing refresh rate though, I dont think there is one.

2)Powerstrip - this program will let you set a profile that should eliminate the 24hz mode.

3) Modify the monitor drivers to remove the 24hz mode.

I'd keep looking for some tool that might allow setting the refresh rate in cryengine2 aswell.

Thanks for all your help Alex. :)

Yep I've given up on finding a cvar, as you say there doesnt appear to be one.

I'll give DX9 mode a go. I've heard powerstrip may solve the issue, if it doesnt I'll try that too.

Do you know how I would go about removing the 24hz mode from the driver? I'm assuming theres an inf file I need to change.

Alex, you're a star, DX9 mode works a treat, I'm sure I had tried it earlier but obviously I hadnt.

Thanks again.

Awesome, glad it worked for you! Hopefully you can help me if I have any issues when I put together my new HTPC i'm planning to go with this TV.

Enjoy the game

I'll certainly help if I can!

One thing I've noticed since switching to DX9 mode is even with VSync enabled the FPS is variable as though it was not enabled, yet there is no tearing

I'm also pleasently surprised that my GTX280 can manage to maintain over 30fps running 1080p with 4xAA
