Hi all,

I have just upgrade my sytem to the below rig, and have installed windows 7 64 bit too, the overclock is rock solid but for some reason Crysis and Crysis Warhead are both juddery even though the FPS looks high.

When I do the demo the first FPS is like mid 40s but the second number is almost half (the one in the brackets). I have tried reinstalling the drivers but the same happens.

The CSS Graphics stress test flies along however at 297FPS all maxed out.

I know it's not my card as it was fine in my old system, and help would be appreciated, cheers.

Have you checked out Windows 7 issues??

I have a sneaky suspicion that it could be that.

:)

How do you mean? issues with crysis or my system?

I was running windows 7 before on a Q9650 Asus P5q Deluxe and it ran fine.

You have a solid system so would not initially go for hardware issue

There maybe a small bug yet to be identified in Windows 7 that could be bottle necking you r cards or your system in general. I would do a quick Google search on something like "Windows 7 FPS issues?" see what you find.
If it worked fine before on your old system then i would look at OS especially such a new one.

He means Windows 7 may be causing this.
Hardware compatibility or Software maybe.

Edit:
I wouldnt jump the gun and say its his graphics card, he even said in his last rig it was fine.
Ive been plagued by this monster for a several months now, still havnt found an answer.

I am going to do a vantage mark test and see if it performs without stutters in this and post back.

Just to be certain this is a fresh install of Windows 7? Does it have all updates installed? No antivirus interfering? (or a virus, either?) Game fully patched? All latest drivers for everything installed? (to make sure you've not got a buggy network driver or something interfering)

Yes it is a fresh install of Windows 7 RC, latest Direct X Catalyst 9.7, the games are patched up, Crysis Warhead is on Steam so it auto patches, I am really not sure why this is happening.

All the drivers are up do date I think, although I went to Gigabyte's website and for windows 7 they only have the audio driver, no chipset drivers or anything else.

Not sure what I should be scoring in vantage but i think it must be more than that with my system

ok I have just noticed something else, when going from tab to tab in the CCC control centre it really lags, i mean 3 or 4 second before changing each panel! anyone else had this?

maybe it is caused by HDD, as I used to have same issue,..tried gtx280/gtx260/hd4870...tried different ram: ocz/kingston...but issue was not solved

its your graphics card mate.

Its called microstuttering.

agreed..common problem with some ati cards...i was so tempted to buy an ati card or 2 but its problems like yours that put me off and make me pay the extra £££ for nvidia cards

Probably microstutter. A supposedly common problem with the 4870X2 (and some CF/SLI setups). I don't know what you can do to fix it :(

V-sync completely eliminates microstutter for me.

Yo, OP! Is V-sync on? If it is, you'll also need to use triple buffering, which you can enable directly by inserting the following command(s) into your Crysis/Warhead autoexec files:

con_restricted=0
d3d9_triplebuffering=1

^Only works in DX9 mode. I don't know if there's any way to force it at the driver level with ATi cards but try this out, see if symptoms persist.

Ntemples! I was having this exact same issue!

Every time I try and load up the Catalyst Control Center, a process called ccc.exe starts, this process then causes my cpu load to spike from 0-40% every couple of seconds.

I have found that by ending this process and never using the control center, the problem has gone away.

I am also using windows 7 with the 9.7's but I have a E8400 and 4890.

Hope this helps!
