I own the game, but read that the Warhead would intall some DRM crap which could potentially mess up the PC...so I was wondering is that really that case, or would I be better off download *ehem* version that are DRM free?

I thought by installing the game it would already put the DRM crap onto my PC...so I just install the game like normal and then replace the exe file?

Yeah the replacement EXE will render the DRM useless and having it installed shouldn't have any negative impact on you PC.

If you go for the peg leg and parrot approach, I'm 99% certain you would just be installing it off an iso of the original DVD anyway, and then copy a cracked exe over that would just prevent the DRM from having any function, you would still have to install the DRM.

It sucks that legit PC gamers are forced to go around the copyright content in order to prevent the drawbacks of ****ty DRM.

This is why I try not to support publishers that put any annoying DRM in their games (although ACB was an exception recently...).

sorry, noob quesion here, but wht on earth is this DRM you are all talking about and what will it do to my PC thats bad?

You can only install crysis 5 (I think) times. Each time you install it it phones home and checks how many times its been installed. Once you install it 5 times, you can't install it again without phoning EA and asking them to let you install the game you own again.

no

it can install unlimited times on the same pc. but can only be installed on 5 different pcs..

but when updating some drivers it could let it think it's a new pc.

What counts as a different PC? I know for some DRM methods even updating graphics drivers can trigger a reactivation.

You never cleared that part up. You de-authed only Crysis 2, before changing drivers. Plus I've not read any bitching on mycrysis.com regarding changing drivers and DRM problems.

I'm sure if changing drivers so many times it would have been all over the forums by now. :)
