CRYSIS on an eee PC!

This is how the 'fake' crysis on eee pc youtube videos were done, but they were claiming the eee was actually running the game.

Hmm, I've downloaded this and it works...well kinda. My main rig sucks (Nvid 6200 AGP...) but I definately think this could work for faster games over a network.

I'm now actually quite tempted to upgrade my main rig so I can stream to my Laptop downstairs. Really good idea, just hope it would run better on a better specced PC!

tempted to use this to stream to a HTPC on my 42" LCD :)

EDIT: does anybody know if this would run with VM?? would be really nice to use one high end rig to run 2 instances of a game to allow another low end PC play to, whould be nice for online gaming.

Latency would be pretty aweful on this, but i guess games like WOW and other such stuff that doesnt require lightening reflexes would be ok. You's also need a 1MB/s upload on your cable/adsl if you wish to play games at 640x480 remotely from your LAN. All in all, its just a flash terminal server.

Once I get hold of a 8600GT from a friend to replace the dire 6200 in my PC I'm going to give this another try.
At the very least it'll get more life out of my GFs laptop for her to play Sims/Point and clicks.

I had a go at this. It worked pretty good for me at the default res with server and client connected to the router with wires. I was able to play crysis on my lappy without much lag. With wireless it was unusable.

so that sounds like you need a 8mbps upload to barely play.....

sounds like a totally terrible idea. nice idea but no use and totally pointless

Run across a wired home network there's no reason why this couldn't work very well, nice and smooth with next to no latency - might be worth a play, especially if you can get a nice gigabit network running - Love the streamed to lounge idea :D

There will be latency, as it would have to encode whatever game is on the screen to the video stream, that would add a second or two depending on the speed of the server cpu and the resolution. I doubt you could play online fps with much success, would be like playing with a 500ms ping or something.

It takes very little processing power to encode/decode on the fly, even up to 1080p - it's done all the time by basic media streamers, but a better example is a mate who streams to his x-box while re-coding the stream on the fly as the xbox doesn't recognise the original format. He manages that seemlessly on an e2180 at <3Gb and 2gb or ddr1  A decent quad would have more than enough spare power to do it flawlessy.

But the proof really is in the eating - I'll have to give it a go and see.

Yeah - you can download the software free and stream across your home LAN, but only at low res. You have to pay for hi-res streaming.
