Crysis performance issues

Hi

Just installed Crysis last night. I don't have a cutting edge PC but it's still pretty fast so I expected to be able to play Crysis at Very High settings at 1280x1024 without any AA.

When I clicked the optimal settings button it chose medium! I set everything to very high anyway but it's lagging with a rather poor framerate. Looks awesome though! Surely my system should manage this?

I found this comment in another thread:

kk, thanks guys al try fiddling with my resolution and i'll try that full screen thing. The replies were much apreciated, thank you all.

Ps. to the guy who wanted to know my spec,

mobo= Gigabyte 965p-DS3
Ram- 2Gig (2x 1gig DDR2 dual channel sticks)
CPU- E6600 2.4GHz core 2 duo
GFX= Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX (twice factory overclocked)
PSU= BFG 800watt
Sound= 5.1 on a Creative sound blaster X-Fi platinum fatal1ty champion edition sound card
500gig hard drive aswell

Personally i was suprised that crysis ran full spec on that but it does. Clicked the optimal setting button and it said "very high" a was like h*ll yeah, went through made sure everything was on very high nd runs smooth as butter.

laters guys

Surely mine should therefore cope? Will newer drivers help?

My specs:

- AMD Athlon FX62
- 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory (@4-4-4-12)
- Radeon HD2900XT 512MB
- 74GB Raptor hard drive for Windows and Crysis just defragged
- Antec NeoHE 550W PSU
- Vista Business x64

Running the 64-bit version of Crysis.

The hard drive seems to be reading a lot too which I wouldn't have expected with 4GB of ram

1280x1024 without any AA is pretty low really in today's world of large widescreen displays but am I just expecting too much from my system? Is Vista killing the framerate?

Thanks

the 64bit one has never run right on my vista 64
i played it on xp32
try the messing around with the beta drivers nvidia
there is a dx10 texture hack for xp32
no aa at all in the game or itll be like watching paint dry

Thanks - I kept AA off as I thought that'd kill it!

I'm with ATI but I'll have a hunt for new drivers. Might try the 32-bit version in Vista

Unfortunately I've only got Vista at the moment :( Absolute nightmare - ever since I installed it back in Feb

There have been numerous posts and threads about Crysis performance, and most pc's at present will struggle on very high.

I have a PC of similar spec to yours, clicked optimal settings and went with that (also set things to medium, and I too game at 1280x1024)

The game looked pretty smart for me, and hd a perfectly playable framerate. I just think you're being unrealistic setting everything to Very High. Maybe choose optimal, then start increasing things to high one by one.

Try running the game in DX9, no one can run it on DX10 with very high settings at a playable framerate atm.

You could also try using a config file, I use this one:

Code:
con_restricted=0
r_displayinfo=1

r_VSync=1
d3d9_TripleBuffering=1
r_ssao_quality=1
r_ssao_amount=0.2
r_SSAO_darkening=3.6
r_TerrainAO_FadeDist=1
r_HDRlevel=0.5
r_TexturesStreaming=0
r_ColorGradingDOF=0
r_ShadowJittering=1
r_ShadowBlur=0
r_GetScreenshot=1
r_GeomInstancing=1
r_MotionBlur=3
r_sunshafts 1

e_hw_occlusion_culling_object=1
e_gsm_lods_num=4
e_shadows_from_terrain_in_all_lods=0
r_UseEdgeAA=2
e_shadows_max_texture_size=512
e_view_dist_ratio=45
e_particles_lod=0.7
e_vegetation_min_size=1.5
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation=50

q_ShaderShadow=1
r_EyeAdaptationBase=0.2

Spot on, Crysis is not a game you can dial up all the settings to max from the off, regardless of how high the spec of your rig, nor was FarCry, iirc.

I run it DX10 all Very High at 1920x1200 (cant run 2560x1600 that is slowwwww) and I get 25-30fp, deffo playable.

BUT I say everything Very High, this is a lie, everything BUT Postprocessing is very high, that kills it. Put postprocessing on Medium/High and it will run better! Once you've dont that, force r_motionblur 0 and r_colorgrading=1 and your sorted, looks a beaut on mine!

Thanks - I'll reduce Postprocessing right down and see how that affects it. I'll also change the motionblur and colorgrading settings
DO not set options lower than medium as it becomes very poor IQ.

Also try Shadows at medium.

I installed Crysis on my XP partition and use edited files to get Very High in XP with a few on medium and play at 1280*1024, 2xAA, 8xAF at ~20fps, but in XP 20 fps is surprsingly playable, in Vista 20fps was very laggy.

Crysis is a waste of money as far as I am concerned.

Q6600, 2900 pro, 4Gb of ram, and still a shrunken screen, blocked out at the sides and bottom, flares of colour across the bottom and some weird occluding bar up the right hand side. Tweak guide? Who cares. Games are supposed to be fun.

I installed Catalyst 7.11 - no change. All AA/AF off, no change. Medium settings made it look WORSE :eek:

A dog's breakfast, and thankfully one I didn't pay for myself. No wonder everyone goes on about Valve. At least they release games that work. Whinge, bah, grumble...

buy a 9800x in a few mths, that will run the game with ease
I don't think even the new 9800x cards will run this game with ease.....

(as my 8800gtx clocked at 652/2000 dropped to about 8fps in this game on one the later levels,and this was not even on the highest settings)

well they are touted as being 2-3 times as powerful as an ultra 8800, if that speculation is true then placing one in your rig will boost performance quite considerably (although the game isn't actually worth it)

Well I got it working and it looks nice enough. Still, if I'd have bought this I would have had a *serious* tanny, possibly going so far as to explosively soil myself. Luckily I had a copy to check out first. I think I'll buy COD4 instead.
