Hello,

Firstly, I couldn't find an 'Official Crysis' thread, just loads and LOADS of threads about specific things. So that is why I am starting a new thread.

Ok, I have just upgraded my PC and I wanted to see what everything thought about the performance I am getting in Crysis because I am worried that my PC is under performing. I have my doubts about my PSU and wondered if thet might be underpowering my graphics card or something.

My spec:

E8400 @ 3.6Ghz
4gb Kingston PC8500 RAM
Sapphire 4870 1gb @ Stock
Windows 7 64bit build 7068

Settings:

1680x1050
AAx2
V-Sync OFF
All on high (I think - not at home right now)
CCC Mod Level 4
TOD Mod
Realistic Shadows Mod

In the first level after the night drop when you are fighting your way along the beach. I get quite a varied framerate but it pretty much averages at about 29-33 FPS. Sometimes goes as high as 45 FPS (very briefly if looking at a rock or at the ground or something) and sometimes drops down to about 25 or so.

It is playable but for some reason it just doesn't LOOK very nice. I don't know whether I have been spoilt by seeing screenshots of people running thin on some uber PC or something. But everything looks a bit too bright, and not very crisp. I expect only have 2xAA will be a reason for this but if I up it anymore the framerate will probably drop too much.

So my only question really is with the above in mind is my PC performing as it should be? Anyone else with similar spec reading this and thinking "Why is his so slow?"

Thanks in advance.

Dude, TBH, I would uninstall your mods.

Play it at very high without the mods first.

Oh and also, turn off AA and turn up AF, AF will make textures crisper and more defined into the distance, rather than them blurring out after 10 feet or so.

Oh another note, to play it on very high, you will need to either be running Vista (direct x 10) or locate a *Very High DX9* cfg file.

I have never really bothered to find out what AF is for. If I whack that right up will that counter the lack of AA then? Considering I am only running 1680x1050?

Perhaps I will uninstall all those mods for now. The thing is they haven't really caused a drop in performance, and whilst screenshots suggest they make the game look better I just am not so keen on it I think.

I'll have another play tonight :)

Thanks

Very high looks a lot better than high.

Ok, I'll try dropping the mods, removing AA, upping AF and sticking it on Very High :)

Great game so far though. I am enjoying going into cloak mode as a patrol comes and then blowing their car up :D

For best results with the CCC mod don't bother with their custom TOD, it's not the best and makes colours look off.

I think that has been the main problem. It just seemed 'off' and I think that is why I was wondering why the game looked a bit odd. I haven't tried Crysis Vanilla for a while but I don't remember thinking like that before.

I can't wait to get home now and uninstall it so I can test it 1st hand :)

I have the exact same spec as you, even have the E8400 clocked the same, but I have vista 64 installed. I also have Crysis on its way to me in the post, so I'll have a play around and let you know how it runs in Vista :)

I would really appreciate that. You know what it is like, even if it runs fine you are always thinking about whether it is running as it should be :p
