Looks absolutely shocking!

It doesnt seem to adjust the res like any other games, it just seems to adjust whatever resolution you use to fit the screen but nothing looks right, even native res is grainy and washed out, it looks really bad

Anyone got it looking decent? Having to use a TV at the moment whilst I'm saving for a new monitor

What TV are you using and what resolution? I have an LG 32" and it looks great on that.

I recently got a new monitor and plugged the HDMI I use to connect my computer to my big TV into the wrong socket so it got the PS3 settings and it looked awful. Maybe check your TV settings? That wasn't a specific game though, it was everything. Turns out I'd managed to shrink the picture on my TV somehow and had expanded it on my PC to compensate so even though it was the right resolution, it was stretched.

Are you not supposed to rename the input on the Samsung tv to 'PC' or 'PC input' or something like that and that bypasses all the post processing the tv does.

Also when you say 'it does not seem to adjust the res like any other games' I take it you have adjusted the resolution in the game menu manually?

ive more or les given up playing games on my tv as they either vsync at 24 fps or 120 fps, either slow or screen tearing. i did get crysis working ok however at some point and it looked great. think it was when i used the vga port on the tv rather than hdmi.

Reverted back to my monitor in the end, TV is no good for gaming IMO

I used TVs for gaming for about 4 years without problems. I still sometimes miss the added size of my 40" 1080P screen over the "small" 27" 1440P monitor I now use. Overall I'm pleased with the change, but to say TVs are no good for gaming is simply not true.

Don't forget the Crysis games have a bug with TVs that means they may swich to 24Hz refresh rate.

One of the threads from a while back with some solutions http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17959235&highlight=crysis+24hz
I was getting that 24hz problem

I had awful trouble with this on a Toshiba 32" with the refresh ratio and the game generally not looking great. Was bizarre because every other game i tried was decent (tv wasn't fantastic). Never got it fixed at the time and have since stopped using my TV as a monitor. Would be interested if there was a solution though.

I use my TV for gaming sometimes, and for most games it's fine, but there are some that only seem to work right when i use the VGA port.

What are the disadvantages of using the VGA port btw? Any I should know that would make me want to switch to HDMI?

I've just done it back to back with a 3 year old 1680x1050 22" monitor and the difference with the monitor is night and day it looks much better

Depends on your TV I guess, I had high spec Samsung TVs with PC-optimised HDMI sockets. Ran just like a 1080P monitor but huge!

I think if you have a tv with a designated pc input, then you should be o.k.

But on the whole monitor gaming is much better, and the smaller the screen size, better still...imo:p

The main disadvantage is with bluray playback (you'll get either a black screen or massively reduced resolution, i think).

If your vision is very good, VGA might be a touch less crisp than HDMI, though you probably have to be close to see it.

HDMI allows for audio pass through, so using HDMI you can dispense with the separate sound cable if your TV has a dedicated PC input.

Beyond those things, I cant think of a difference.

I know I switched between HDMI and VGA fairly regularly on the parent's media centre PC, when I was looking for a fault, and they never noticed a difference.
