Hi guys,

I really fancied going through crysis again so i installed it on my 64bit windows 7 only to find that it runs like a dog!!! I set my settings to optimal which puts everything to high as it did on XP for me but im constantly going from 60fps down to 30fps all the time and it looks terrible. I just cant work out why it runs better on xp and now i have a more powerfull system with more ram and its like 10x worse. Im running the 10.3 ati drivers as these seem the best ones they have done for a while. I dont get any probs with any other games just so shocked with crysis running so bad.

Anyone else run this on win 7 64bit?

VSYNC? Maybe because on XP it defaults to DX9 where on 7 it would default to DX10? Also, 10.4 drivers for me have given the best performance for my 5850.

XP doesn't support DX10, hence isn't doing half of the post-processing of the game runnign on Win7. Running the game in DX9 mode on Win7 will acheive the same results.

Yea i have vsync on like i do for all my games. As for the 10.4 drivers i heard there were issues with high idle temps might be wrong tho. The thing with drivers is when im using a set that work fine i really dont see the point in changing.

As the others have stated, it's probably because you are running in DX10 mode. There are various custom graphics configs available which do a good job of making crysis running in DX9 mode look very similar to DX10 mode but without the performance issues.

I'm sure its in the graphics setup menu though it has been a while. I played Warhead in DX10 the other day (just a quick muck about) and it was smooth as butter- 1920*1080, All higest settings, 2xAA. Maybe there is something else wrong? Are you by any chace using the 64bit excecutable? Its buggy, the 32bit seems the better option. And is your Crysis install patched to the latest patch? I seem to remember a lot of perfromace problems were help by a patch.

Edit, this is with a Win 7 64bit, Q6600 @3.0GHz, 4GB RAM and a 5850 so very similar to your setup

To run it in DX9, create a shortcut to the .exe, open the shortcut properites and add -dx9 after the exe file in the target box. eg:

E:\Crysis\Bin64\Crysis64.exe -dx9

Aye, give it a go. You should be getting decent performance with your kit. What resolution do you play at?

Im running it at my monitors max which is 1600x900 with vsync on. Every game seems to run realy well on my rig so im well chuffed with it just so suprised how bad crysis ran after really enjoying it on xp with a not so powerful rig

Thanks for that mate will give that a go
