Hi guys

Everytime I start the game I get these annoying black borders.

Graphics card is 5850 and resolution is 1920x1080p.

The graphics driver is 12.1 and in amd ccc, I have enabled gpu scaling and overscan is turned to 0%.

In the game I have ticked the full screen mode and yet I still get black borders. I have also tried alt+enter and screen just switches between black borders and windowed mode displaying crysis warhead dx10, etc etc in the tab.

With Crysis I had similar problem. However with the use of alt+enter, I was able to get full screen after pressing 4-5 times.

Btw monitor is Samsung S24A350H and it is connected to my gfx via hdmi-hdmi cable.

I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks :)

On my old 5870 this issue was fixed one driver release, then back the next, with no word of it in the release notes.

The sure-fire fix is to run the game in D3D9 using the -dx9 command line.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help :( hopefully someone else knows a working driver for it.

I get this too on my CF6870 setup. I have googled the issue before and was unable to properly solve the issue. I would also be interested to get a solution for this issue.

I've had nothing but trouble with my 5850 card in games... crashes, BSODs, artifacts. I RMA'd one and got another. Similar performance in certain games. Most frustrating thing. Tried a lot of drivers. D:

Hope you find a solution.

I had the same issue, and the alt+enter thing was the only real workaround. It's a great card though. Best bang for buck even now when you overclock it.

Odd, I played through Crysis and Warhead on a 5850 with no issues at 1080.

Perhaps try deleting the settings config file and relaunching the game?

I think the problem I have found is that the full screen in the game only seems to be conforming to 1600x900 res screen size, regadless of what resolution I have chosen for my monitor. So if I have chosen the native resolution 1920x1080p, the full screen will only display 1600x900 res screen size hence the black borders.

It's definitely a scaling issue but somehow it is not working properly for this game in my case.

Early on I tried DX9 but still the same issue.:(

It's launching in something other than your usual res, and you haven't set the scaling for that res to 0%. Crysis has a habit of doing that. Google around there's a work around by adding non standard res options but I forget now the exact method.

Troll: Buy a Nvidia card & have all your driver problems disappear. :D

Is there an ini file where you can force the correct resolution?

I found the solution :):

(If you are using an AMD (ATI) graphics card and getting a black border or zoomed out effect when connected to your monitor using HDMI, you need to adjust the overscan setting in catalyst control panel. Further more you need to do this for every different refresh rate and resolution to fix the problem in 3d modeslike running games fullscreen.

Open Catalyst, drop down graphics and select ‘Desktop & Displays’. Then right click on the small screen at the bottom and click configure. Enable GPU scaling, then click on the ‘Scaling Options’ tab and set underscan to 0%. Click apply. Don’t close the window.

Now right click on the windows desktop. Select screen resolution and advanced settings. Select monitor and change the refresh rate to all the different rates. For each one, apply, then go back into catalyst and set the underscan setting to 0% again. Repeat for all desired combinations of resolution and refresh rate.

Now the borders should have gone.)

I had to turn overscan to 0% for 1920x1080p 50Hz in order for black borders to disappear. This leads me to believe that crysis warhead is running at 50Hz.

Some of the posts in this thread also seem to acknowledge the 50Hz issue.
