Over the past couple of year's I've found myself keeping less and less up to date with the latest release's and having had a look on a rival competitor's site i saw this coming out in the next couple of months, it looks really good but what's the buzz around this game?

Is it going to be as good as it looks?

Yes yes and yes.. it looks like the only game on the horizon worth upgrading your PC for.

Check out the videos of it at gametrailers..

Well I recently upgraded my rig and thought it's about time I got something to make use of it and after a small amount of searching this looked the best out of anything coming out in the near future (which i guess isn't saying that much as it's all quite on the game front on any systems from what I can make out :( )

hope you spent lots of money if you want it to look like those pics ;)
but hopefully yes it will be great - but I expect we'll be waiting a fair while yet before we find out.

I've had me head buried in WoW for so long that I've not really followed other gaming developments lately. Those Crysis pictures *really* do look stunning. Is it meant to be a semi-free roaming jungle/laboratory affair with mutants like Far Cry was?

It's part set in the jungle in North Korea, and part set in a frozen alien wasteland.

But yes, I think the basic idea is large semi-free roaming levels, a la far cry. Which is good :)

Im afraid to say but whoever told you to upgrade at this point in time for gaming was probably not the right person to listen to. The only title i can think of is Stalker. Fair enough if your going to C2Duo but by the time Crysis is out we should have another generation of graphics cards, and possibly some new CPU chips, but im not too sure on them.

I'm waiting on upgrading myself for Crysis, was gonna bite the bullet and go for a nice DX10 card sooner but may as well wait and see what the prices are when Crysis is out.

Hopefully won't have to upgrade anything else except the graphics card to run it on fairly decent settings.

Intel 975, Core 2 Duo 2.40 (which im overclocking over the weekend), 8800 GTS oh and 4gb of Hyper X Ram - not too shabby eh ;)

Yeah same here :) I was going to get an 8800 as soon as I could afford it, but not anymore. Next upgrade will be power supply, then CPU cooler so I can overclock, then Crysis will probably be out so I'll get a shiny new graphics card :) TBH there's nothing that I use this PC for that my 7600 isn't coping with... so I figure it'd just be a waste of money right now.

It just looks incredible.
I think that it will absolutely MAUL every part of your system. Dual Core will be a must.
The sheer amount of shadow, foliage and grass effects will seriously take its toll on your system.
Think outdoors in the woods in Oblivion at max settings, only worse :D
What will almost certainly be the killer will be all the foliage shadows. As in Oblivion, shadows coming off gently swaying trees and onto equally swaying grass will hit your CPU like a pneumatic drill. Even worse in this case due to the diffuse ray effects of the sun, so light will bend around gaps in the foliage etc and so the shadows will be constantly in motion, and very complicated
