hi there guys few questions on a new gpu to play crysis at full whack on 1280x1024 res.....

Will a 640mb 8800gts do it?
or **** i push for a gtx?

what sort of fps on full settings in dx10 in crysis will i get with the gts and gtx?

and overclocked???

Cheers
Matt.

Personally I'd go with either an 8800GT 512MB or 8800GTX 768MB considering the prices, thought at 1280x1024 I honestly think that an 8800GTX will be overkill unless you have money to burn.

Not sure about FPS, but I don't think the GTS will do too well on max settings at 1280x1024

When you say "full whack" do you mean each setting on "Very High" and anti-aliasing?

An 8800GT will do "High" settings but I doubt it'll do "Very High".

so a GTX is nessasary to get Very High settings all round then?

*** sort of fps will i be getting with it all on Very high with a GTX?

thx for quick replies!

No graphics card can run crysis on full settings with AA at a stable FPS. We need nvidias next gen card for that :)

I dont have Crysis but I thought it was possible to get max settings with no AA or 2xAA on a 8800GT/GTS/GTX at the above resolution.

My advice would be to google for Crysis benchmarks and see what the difference is between the cards at each resolution on "Very High".

I would go for an 8800GT personally as it's more mid-range... 8800GTX is 'supposedly' being replaced in Feb/March with the next range of cards, but it's up to you if you want to start playing the waiting game ;)

I have a GT and run 'Very High' settings with 2xAA at 1280 x 1024 and my Average FPS is around 32-34, so imo it's not worth getting a GTX for the minimal gain you might get over an overclocked GT.

Got to go widescreen for this game dooode. I'm playing at 2560 x 1600, 32X HQ AF, 16X AA, Ultra settings on Onboard 6150, getting around 120fps :0)

Well in Vista in dx10, all very high at 1280x1024, 2xaa, I got around ~20fps , I cant see how u got 32-34fps average...

No GFX card out today can play crysis at very high settings in DX10 with acceptable frame rates, maybe ok on some levels but on most it will be a lag fest even at 1280x1024 with no AA.

So how is he getting 32-34fps average?

I go try XP.

And my system is similar, E6600 @ 3.4
4GB ram
8800GT @ 700/1800/1000

So how is he getting 32-34fps average?

Maybe hes looking at the ground when hes playing :p the simple fact is you wont get an average of 32-34 fps at those settings, unless it was on a very non GFX intensive part in the game, which very rarely occurs. On the fist level on the beach i get between 14-20 fps with nothing going on, we need new hardware to play at max in DX10.
