Just a quick question really. Does anyone on here own or rent CS 1.6 servers and if so whats the pricing and quality like? I've recently got back into mapping for both 1.6 and source and I can't run a dedicated server from home due to having a router (HLDS has problems with LAN IPs -.-)

Any advice on buying/renting etc is most welcome

Gameservers.com are quite a good company, but their css (cs1.6) servers can be quite expensive for a decent amount of slots.

INX is another option (another one I use), but I suggest you shop around and try to find the cheapest one.

If you're serious about it, maybe get a cheap PC and host it locally.

Problem with this is how the hell do I get my mates to join if they are at home etc? HLDS only see's my LAN IP address so the server isnt joinable by anyone unless they are on my network. Thats why im looking at 3rd party servers as I can't physically host one myself

sv_lan 0

Long time since I hosted a server but you can set them up from your PC so other people can play on it. Have a look at srcds.com

Surely you'd be limited by your line connection?

Best I've used were Killer Creation. Never had a problem with them. INX are also good :)

You are limited but as long as you don't have something ancient like dial-up you should be alright. I ran a scrim server for about 3 years off a 512kb/s connection. :p

For someone to connect to any server i make, the server must be made with my external IP address (aka the one I get from my ISP to my router) with a port after it. Problem is HLDS doesnt realise im on a LAN, so automatically chooses my local IP address on one of my PC's and its greyed out, so I cant change it. If I used a modem instead of a router, I wouldnt have this problem.

Simply changing sv_lan to 0 does nothing with this problem

not hard to host server at all ;) sv_lan 0 will work but if you running with a Router then its ports you need to be looking at

I've opened all the ports needed...

The problem is the actual half life dedicated server program not using the right IP address, meaning external people cannot join my games

maps ready for testing at last, when I get a server going I'll stick the ping in here if people are interested

Multiplay is a joy

Dont know if this will help or not, not really sure on the mapping side of it. My clan uses multiplay tbh, our server is usually always full at peak times (not work hours) and people seem to love the reg on it. We have up to 20 clan members who collectively pay for our servers in CSS, altho the servers are all in my name. We have guys from all over the world log on and still get gr8 reg, gr8 in and out rates with very choke and low pings.

Only thing i'l say about multiplay is the mani rank system can be a pain at times, however best thing to do if your getting a public server is to get HLstats... what a joy.

The public server is the cheapest and best costs @ £26/month, debranded, 100tick, with 20 slots and a 20 man free vent server. The server controle pan "Clan Forge" is fantastic to use.

Our ED match server is basic and costs £11/month for 11 slots with MOD Source TV. and 10 free vent slots, altho for some reason the the ping seems to be higher in there than on public server.

Anyways feel free to see how a multiplay server runs, our i.p is:

The Fallen Unit - 100Tick - UK - HLstats
85.236.100.211:27015
there is usually admin on thro out the day so feel free to ask them questions, any1 with a (|Ť.ƒ.u|) in front of their name is prob an admin.

Hey by all means go to our forums @ www.fallenwild.co.uk and challenge us to a PCW friendly, we'll use our server if you dont have one.
