I have a big urge to play CS 1.6 again after so long not playing it.

I used to be really into it with clans and matches etc, does this sort of thing still happen?

Is there still leagues on Enemy Down (I can't seem to get on there at the moment).

There are still a lot of people that play it. I play it regularly probably 3 - 4 times a week.

IIRC ED went down the route of CS Source although there are still leagues for 1.6 I wouldn't know where to start.

They should have made CS 1.7, most stupid idea ever that they didnt update it.

CS 1.6 was the most played game ever at one stage. The Fools just stopped updating it!

most of the professional teams still have cs 1.6 teams competing in various leagues and at lan, 1.6 isnt dead yet :p although more people are now moving to css because of the recent bug/exploits fix updates. Enemydown does have a 1.6 league but the amount of teams competing in that league is quite small compared to the css league

It does seem that it's finally starting to have had its day. I was surprised when I saw the Source version is now the more played one. For absolute yonks it was still 1.6 by miles.

A ridiculous amount of people still play it, it's the most played game on steam without a doubt.

It's currently 2.30AM, atm there is 45,000 people playing CS 1.6. That's a hell of a lot when you compare it to CSS and it's current 19,000 people online.

The OP was asking about leagues and matches and as people have already mentioned, 1.6 is a shadow of its former self when it comes to player numbers - you won't have trouble finding a full public server but the competitive scene is nothing like it once was. Yes the same small community of 'pro' players still play matches but if you are just looking to play a few mixs or get back into match play at an average level then you will notice how in the UK at least css is far more popular.

JimAroo - CSS is way more popular in europe, just because it is the most played game on steam at 2.30am our time does not mean it is the most played overall. Those figures totally change depending on what time of day it is.

For example, at the moment (10.47am) there are equal numbers of 25k players on both games, yet when you look at the 'peak today' there were more players at any one time on css then on 1.6. When it is peak gaming time in europe you usually see far more css players then on 1.6, whereas when europe is asleep (like at 2.30AM on a Sunday night) you get way more 1.6 players playing from countries and parts of the world where 1.6 is still popular.

Every time i've checked CS 1.6 has had many more players than CSS.

This sums it up really. http://www.steampowered.com/status/game_stats.html

And these fools updated it with CS 1.7, otherwise known as Counterstrike: Source

^^ Page last updated September 18th 2006. Out of date.

With regards to 1.6 I still play occasionally for a laugh, but I find it far too dated these days to play for any length of time. However in answer to your question, plenty of people still play it.
