I know it is still in beta, but do you HAVE to have a steam account, with CS:GO activated on it in order to setup a dedicated server for it? I have a VMserver that I have setup a dedicated linux virtual machine in order to host a CS:GO dedicated server, but when following the developer valve guide, it requires you to login to Steam, and you cannot have the same steam account logged in on 2 different machines.

Does this mean I need 2 accounts, my workstation with Steam client and CS:GO to play it, and another Steam account with CS:GO to run a dedicated server from ?

I would ask on the Valve forums, but I can't get on those from work :(

I've just had a look on my ubuntu dedi box and CS:GO doesn't appear in the list of available games to install so it sounds like you're right and that you need to have an account logged in (presumably with beta access?) to get it working.

Nope. I just assumed that it would've used the default linux steam commandline app. If it uses something else (looking at that link, it does) then you're on your own sorry. Maybe somebody else will be able to help.

CSGO doesn't use the "standard" HLDSUpdateTool to download, update and run the dedicated server.

They instead decided to move it onto SteamCMD. Which prompts for a valid Steam Login at run-time.

It looks more annoying to use than the HLDSUpdateTool, which I know and love ever so well :) lol
