CS:GO Discussion

Thing is hazy, you already upgraded your sound card from onboard audio. You might as well try to maximise your experience by matching it with the nicest headset possible (aka affordable). You'd no doubt be happy with the Hypers but IMO you might as well get some ATH / Sennheiser set that should sound a bit better.

As I broke my old headphones and needed a headset / headphones asap I was using the Sennheiser 320 game's and I would say they are a similar sound to most gaming headsets. Going from them back to a nice headset such as the ATH-AD700x was incredible for CSGO. That is in part tho due to the detailed upper mid / treble that you get specifically with the a700x's which make them ideal for gaming.

LOL or instead of buying my headset for £100 if rly lucky or £150-200 if less so, you can spend even more and get the gaming version with mic attached lel http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-000-AT

Joe, as much as I detest God awful headsets, the CloudXs at £50-60 are very very good. They're slightly toned down DT770s from my listening time and whilst the CALs! may be slightly better for the same money from a music POV, many will prefer the all in one aspect of the Clouds.

In order to get anything better for the money you'd be looking at second hand, which scares a lot of people in the audio world. Admittedly a HD558/598 will be better for gaming, due to the pronounced mids and treble and better soundstage but they aren't great for music and films. The AD700s were terrible for anything but gaming, so tiring to listen to - the AD700Xs got a mild boost to their bass but many would still not get along with their sound signature.

most people who sell keys will sell them below market value (they do on steamtrades anyways) and you can normally get a discount if buying in bulk.

streamers just buy them, they get enough donations/views/ads to earn a living from playing games.

The previous version was exactly as you say, a toned down version of the DT770's with some rough edges. The is the new version aka not as good so that really depends upon version number.

I was talking about the AD700x's not the closed cup non x version. The bass is tight and musical while not being overpowering (most people would consider these bass light). The major issue a lot of people will have with headset's such as the 700x's is that pronounced treble bump about 7k but that is easy to mitigate with eq. Also as a jazz fan I would ahve thought you were a fan of the 700 series? They are excellent for most woodwind / brass instruments.

HD 598's are great for music why do you have issues with those? Yes they aren't ideal for wubstep but that's why we have eq's (remember never boost frequency's only cut).

I have a SS Siberia V2, and I have lent them to people who consider themselves audio philes and have tons of 'pro' headsets (senhaisers, or however it's spelt) and they always told me they sound surprisingly good considering they are not too expensive and they are under the 'gaming' tag. Obviously, people just disregard them because they are 'gaming' headphones and they come from a gaming-oriented company, and not from so pro 1337 sound company like seinheisers/phillips or whatever. Granted, they don't compare to a 300/400 quid headet, but since when does a peugeot 106 compare to a Bugatti Veyron?

tl;dr Don't disregard camy headset because it is considered 'gaming.' Actually try the bloody thing out. And if you can't try them, read USER reviews.

The last time someone disregarded pheriperals for the sole reason that they were made by mainstream companies got laughed at by everyone else when he bought a bunch of non-mainstream goods which were terrible.

I've been using HD558's for 2-3 days now and so far they need burning in as the sound is not exactly what people are describing in their reviews. But as multipurpose headphones they seem to be very good, especially since my orientation of where the enemies are coming from is far better. Before I had 668B's which sound for Jazz and Funk/Soul were better in some songs, but than again the HD558's showed me some of the sounds which I have never noticed before.

There are many headsets in 60 pounds bracket that can be used as gaming headphones, just do a small search on forums such as Head-Fi. ;)

No Siberia's sound bad compared to any half decent headset.

IC3 - They will take about 24-72 hrs of constant usage to burn in, they'll only get better. Had you udone the 2p mod or Sennheiser cushion mod to your superlux / samsons? If not you were missing out on half the fun of them.

I modded my 668b's, atm I don't want to mod my HD558's as I want to burn them in first and maybe after 100h I'll think about removing the foam bit in the shell. The HD558's sound pretty closed for a open headphone construction, the bass is definitely stronger compared to 668b's as sometimes they were lacking it.

I had SS siberias v2, Trittons (I can't remember now, but they weren't cheap either) and I had a chance to play on Turtle beaches as most of my mates are console peasants :p. They did their job even thou most of them were uncomfortable and in music when compared to my old 668b's they had no chance. I would pick 668b or samson SR850i any time over these crap 'gaming' headphones, I haven't heard the hyperx clouds so not going to comment on them. I don't see the point of paying extra for worse/same sound, its probably a placebo effect that the companies create by ads which does a small brainwash.

Edit:

IMO this video is pretty good for people who have no knowledge about sound/headphones, as I had to do all that research on my own. Now you have everything explained in 1 video, just liked it was mentioned in the video most gaming headsets are closed which means smaller soundstage... For gaming you want large soundstage which can be found in nearly every OPEN headphones.

If your budget is bigger...

I knew I was going to get this. Personally, I'm not the best judge. The rating I can give to headsets is simple; good or not good. As I said, I lent them to a number of people and all of them had good reviews considering their conditions. They (and all gaming peripherals) have the stigma that any other professional piece of equipment is better,100% of the times. Who would have thought that big audio companies make headsets which are all 100% good and they win in all circumstances?

Heck, I'm not saying my V2s are the best, but I wouldn't automatically rule out any gaming headhpones.

EDIT: And there we go, 'Gaming headsets suck' video. It's equivalent to pc master race thing. Any reasonable person can see that consoles are good in their own way.

Make no mistake a lot of people won't even notice the difference between a £10 headset and a £500 set. All we can do is inform people and let them make their own choices.

I've been promoting the superlux 668b / samson 850i's for about 2-3 years now so it's not like it's a new thing. They are absolutely great for their price and are far better than most gaming headset.

The new clouds are not the same as the old DT770 version ;)

If what people are saying about them is true and they were priced at £39.99 I would definitely recommend these to a stubborn person.

Stupid comparison, as you can easily build a PC which outperforms a console and save a lot of money on games as PC games tend to be cheaper. If I was to list all of the reasons why PC would be a better choice, there would be too much to write and read.

I know that some games are exclusive on console (PC has it's exclusives as well) and some people buy the console just for this 1 or 2 exclusives. I have a friend who bought new gen console just for 1 title... I'm not that much into gaming as he is, so to me it seems stupid spending 399 just to play 1 game.

I was blown away by 668b's when they finally burned in, as I use to buy 'gaming' headphones which sounded terriable and most were bass dominant mainly because of the closed construction. The funny thing I found in some of the marketing was that they used the overwhelming 'boomy' bass as an feature which gives you an 'advantage'.... :o

I still can't believe that I only paid 31.99 inc. shipping for my old 668b. I would recommend changing the pads thou, as the stock ones aren't exactly what I would call comfortable.

So the first clouds which when they came out on OcUK priced at 39.99 (I think it was a special offer...) were actually sounding like the qpad-beyer? I remember them being black, now I can see clouds price at nearly 70 pounds :o with an black/white design.

For the new people starting their journey with CS:GO, here are some useful articles which I recommend reading ;)
