Hi guys

Are clan has just ordered a server from 4u the specs are

SuperServer Standard (P4 2.8, 2gb)
Linux Fedora 4
1 server @ 66 tick

and with 16 ppl on port the thing was @ 100% cpu load causing huge lag?

iam stupid to think that this dedicated box should have ran a 26 man server + match?

How many other CS:S servers are being ran off that box? Too many servers can cause some problems.

Not sure what you mean by the way you have worded it, but are you saying you are running a 26 man server plus a match server on the same box? If that, try dropping it to two 12 man servers or something like that.

Is it the same on other 4u servers with similar specs? Restarted it?

If it's not running at all well, then get 4u to look into it. If you've only just got it, it could just be random network problems at 4u, but I dunno.

that box should easily handle more than 16 slots. Possibly its 4U overloading the box with something else. If your only using the server for CSS then theres no point in having a dedicated server. The tocuk clan rent theres from ammobox who are very good. The IP's in my comment if you want to try it.

well we had the dedi box becuase we have a stronge public server and needed a 26man server tbh!

But we really wanted a Public/Match and fun server which we thought this would handle easily?

1 of the main problems with servers is people running the same server 4-5 times completely accidental i.e. if you try to restart and dont realise its done there can be often 4-5 main processes running that 1 server when their only needs to be 1.

Anywho - 66 tick takes a lot of CPU and Fedora is a pretty poor linux distro.

Fedora isnt too bad as OS when your only running games servers, it was what I used. The box should easily handle a 66tick server though. As its a dedi and not shared I'd imagine the process had been started multiple times by mistake, so its not just running one css server.

Its possible - also possible that the CPU is overheating and throttling :) I seen that several times with game servers.
