Hi all

Recently i was having trouble with my wireless network card, it wouldn't load any web pages etc, so i just associated my counterstrike problem with that.

Basically i can't connect to servers. It get's as far as "Sending Client Info" and just packs up, no further progress... all i can do is press cancel and quit the game. I then bought a wireless usb adapter and it seemed to have worked for a few days, but now it's doing it again.

Any ideas? :(

check your firewall isnt blocking hl2

Just made some exceptions on my router firewall (dont run one on my pc).

I manage to get into servers now, but i just lag out/lose connection within about 30 seconds.

Bloody annoying :(

The last time this happened to me was because Kaspersky didn't like steam, thought it was trying to UDP flood my own computer (well duh, it downloads via UDP). Try using the built-in XP Firewall for a while and see how it goes. It could be the same problem with the built in router firewall.

Plug in a cat5 cable as I've seen so many people with wireless get annoyed on FPS games :( so unstable.

Check you have uPNP & NAT on your router. I don't use any port forwarding or anything.

Also maybe check the timeout setting (if you have one, I needed this for gamespy rather than cs, but might help)
TCP Timeout (in seconds) - 190
UDP Timeout (in seconds) - 190
What router is it
I'm guessing the firewall on the router is a SPI one, so shouldn't effect steam or cs:s etc.

If you don't use a firewall on your system, do you have windows firewall enabled? I'm guessing that could cause problems altho I always disable it :)

i've got a similar problem where css loads and gets to retrieving server info and will crash to desktop with the message HL2 has stopped working. it's not happening every time and once joined server it plays good with no crashes. anyone had this problem?

Hey there.

I re-installed steam and all my games, then i set up a static ip and forwarded the ports.

Seemed to have sorted itself out :)
