Hi,

I've been given a budget to purchase some CSS and Basic HTML books for our general book library at work. Mainly for reference for our other developers who are moving more and more into web development and standards based design. I'm looking to get four or five books. Any suggestions for books would be greatly appreciated.

I already have the following two books on my list (These are the ones I use at home):

CSS Mastery
Transcending CSS

Thanks

Actually, I've got a couple of PHP sitepoint books. They were pretty good. I'll have a gander at the HTML and CSS ones they do! Thanks

My fav CSS/HTML and web related books are;

- Web Standards Solutions (by Dan Cederholm)
- Bulletproof Webdesign (by Dan Cederholm)
- CSS Zen Garden Book - (for inspiration / also good link inside the book e.g colour issue, grid, hacks etc)
- (X)HTML Visual Quick Start Guide (but tbh any html book)
- Managing Multimedia: Project Management for Web and Convergent Media (by Elaine England and Andy Finney)

Designing With Web Standards by Jeffrey Zeldman is pretty much the de facto standard book on the subject, though it's a bit dated (however there is a second version) and its advocacy of XHTML as well as a lot of material and other information is flawed, irrelevant and technically incorrect. But it's still one of the prime books on the subject and as such would probably be popular in a library.

I think Designing with Web Standards is 1 big bore, also Eric Meyer on CSS is bit too old.

I have both 1st editions but maybe the 2nd edition is more fun!

Other books to consider;

- Don't Make Me Think!: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability (by Steve Krug)

- User Centered Web Design (John Cato, but old but always comes handy for Uni projects)
