css fps on ati 4870

i have just got a 4870 to replace my 8800gt, i got max FPS in CSS (300) which i had to limit. but now, with the ati i only get 50 odd??

any ideas why? could this be a driver thing?

Remembered to clean the old drivers? Installed the newest 8.12 drivers?

yea was a fresh install

CS:S is CPU limited though, i went from an 8800gt to a 4870 and got no noticable increase in FPS

Make sure the PCI-E bus is running at 16x.

catalyst was set all settings to high, AA etc

CS:S is all about the cpu... not the gfx card as said above

well then ur fps would continue to rise

one of them has to hit their limit at some point unless u hit the fps cap or game engine cap.

I used to play cs:s with crossfire 4850 cards. Ya the FPS were kind of all over the place i also had my Qx9650 clocked at 4Ghz while playing this game. Still in some areas it be 300FPS then others it could drop as low as 100FPS.

Saying that when running at 300 or 100 it did not make any differince to the game well i could not tell the differince.

that shouldn't drop your fps at all unless your at 1920x1080 or something. i run 8xAA and 16xAF and never go lower than 100fps even on 40 man servers.

I think the following commands may also help : developer 1 ; r_3dsky 0

I turn everything off but leave the catalyst a.i. on top setting (advanced) which I think enables both gpu's - though I may be wrong there.
