CSS keeps lagging on my Dell Vostro?!

It kicks off alright but after a while, say 20mins or so, it really has problems 'keeping up' and gets very 'laggy'. I have lowered some of the graphics but it makes no difference. I am running a 2.2Ghz C2D with 2Gb RAM with a 8600 GT.

Ideas or tweaks?

I have Avast doing its 'On Access' scanner...could that be the issue? :confused:

Possible...its on a desk. Maybe i should buy a laptop cooler.

Yeah sounds like temperature throttling to stop things getting too hot. I used to get it on my gaming laptop when it was getting too hot. Happened non stop in CoD4, had to alt tab for 30 seconds to let it cool down for a minute and tab back in for another round of playing

Definitely definitely this! My Vostro has the same problem. It's easy enough to resolve though - just use something underneath it to elevate it a few mm's above whatever you rest it on, and it'll be fine again. The little rubber feet it comes with don't give it enough clearence to get some decent airflow.

Also if you have had it a while get some compressed air and blow it through the intake/ exhaust holes, normally there is a build up of dust and crap over everything.
