CSS - Router forwarding ???

I am not sure if this is the place to put this or not but I am sure that it will be moved if it isnt.

I am new to the world of routers and was wondering if there was a way of increasing the speed on CCS as it runs just as fast with router as it did a USB modem.

Well i was told that I would get a better speed by using the LAN cable rather than a USB. Correct me if im wrong.
