Ive been playing Counter Strike Source for years now using a wireless network and Ive always noticed lag when playing online. Im currently using a dlink g404t wireless router and my computer has an AMD 4000+ cpu with Radeon x1800xt graphics and onboard wifi from the Asus M2N32-SLi-DLX motherboard. The router is situated downstairs and my computer almost directly upstairs from it. The reception I get is always between very good and excellent.

My question is does wifi introduce noticeable lag in games like Counter strike? Is it just that my router is crap? Are there any other wifi alternatives that will improve this if so? Or should I just go with a wired configuration?

Now I need to figure out how to wire from my router downstairs to my computer upstairs :(.

i had that problem before...I ran a long telephone extension cable from downstairs to upstairs (hidden) so that I coule plug the router in directly beside the computer. You arent really meant to do that with telephone extensions as it drops the ADSL sign al quality...but i didnt notice any difference...and it was far beter than wireless.

Just get some Ethernet cable and run it up temporarily, until you're in a position to wire through the walls/ceiling.

Telephone extensions will reduce signal, and can cause more 'problems' than wireless.
