Same in HL2 and other games?

Got latest drivers? DirectX 9.0c?
Overclocked at all? Guess that's a Pentium 4, so are temperatures okay?
Tried dropping the grapics settings?

Can you be (far) more descriptive about exactly what the freezing is and what you are doing just before it happens.

Nothing just waching others play the game... waiting for the new game to start :)

Had that today, screen froze, sound loop. ALT + CTRL + Deleated, ended hl2.exe and restarted css, was ok then. Probably a one off.

Have you played HL2 long enough to know it doesnt do it on that?

Do you have the same settings for HL2 as CSS?

Does it freeze at the same point each time?

Upon freezing does it BSOD, keep the image, give any text errors?

How do you solve the freeze, reboot? task manager?

What video drivers are you running?

Have you changed anything recently on your pc? e.g. drivers? bios'?

Have you run spyware checkers etc recently?

Might be worth testing your memory, just incase.

I always try and rule out my hardware first before anything else.

Sometimes i join a server it like freezes for 2 secs then get sound loop then im in the game... have u left it like more than 2 secs?

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this doing my head in .. i just crashed AGAIN and i cant do a CTRL+ALT+DEL :'( WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

I have a had a look on the steam could not find eny thing tho :(

looping sound crash is a pretty common problem. Happens to me too occasionally, but I think I've cut the number of times it happens down quite a lot. Make sure your sound drivers are up to date for one thing. Also just try playing it on the lowest graphics settings to see if it still happens. Another thing to try is using the -heapsize option. See http://www.google.com/search?q=hl2+heapsize

Just do all of those things one by one so that if something helps then you'll know what did.

When it does crash you'll probably find that steam is using 100% cpu. If you change the process priority for steam before playing (open task manager, find steam in the process list, right click, set priority->low) then you should be able to ctrl+alt+delete when it crashes so you don't have to reboot every time.

i get the same thing sometimes i can play for 4-5hrs then it will crash or sometimes after just ten mins it will do it
mine tells me error
"failed to lock index buffer"
does anybody know what this might be?
