Hi

I picked up my CTR today from the bodyshop after having some paintwork done and since then the alarm has started playing up.

Its gone off randomly twixe in the past few hours for no reason :s

It had bonnet, drivers door and front wing resprayed.

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

Is there a bonnet sensor? Could that be stuck?

Sounds like it could be the sensor, I'm not sure where they are though.

May be worth googling to see where it is?

Probably miles different with yours, but the Focus has a small metal rod which pokes up from the bonnet lock. When the bonnet is shut, this small rod makes contact with a plate on the underside of the bonnet. This is the alarm sensor/switch. Bonnet opens and the alarm goes off. Mine wasnt making a proper contact and kept going off in the middle of the night.

I temporarily solved the problem by removing the wiring plug from the bottom of the bonnet catch and shorting it with a paperclip. It was just a simple two prong affair. This fooled the alarm into thinking the bonnet was always shut. And it kept the neighbours happy!

I remember when looking into CTR's that the prefacelifts have dodgy alarms anyway. Maybe worth asking on Type R Owners as it's gotta be something pretty common :)

Mine had alarm problems too but mine was an 05 reg. Mine was the sensor by the rear view mirror but the bonnet sensors are a nightmare too :)

Hopefully it's a sensor, as the Hamilton Palmer alarm systems fitted to pre-facelift CTRs sre a nightmare. I had my motherboard replaced at a cost of £440 when the immobiliser (part of the HP system) made my car cut out a couple of times, including on a rush hour A road.

That was ~3 years ago. The alarm is starting to randomly go off again now, which was how it all began last time. In fact, mine went off at 3am last night. I bet the neighbours are well pleased. :(

The one in mine was a few years old. I didn't waste time trying to diagnose it. He took the old system out and installed a new Toad for me.

oh dear oh dear, a 52 plate CTR.

i had so many issues with my Hamilton Palmer alarm. My advise is Do not spend a penny getting it repaired!!! I spent £300 getting a Nightwatch alarm fitted by a local Auto electrican and it was trouble free there after.

The thing that's bugging me is it was perfect before it went in the bodyshop. Now it comes back and its gone loopy. makes me think they have done something under the bonnet

If they can't work it out it might be new alarm board time as you have the Hamilton Palmer alarm. It's 250 direct from them and easy to fit unless you are incompetent. Let us know what body shop say!

Well it seems to have sorted itself out, hasn't gone off for a few days (touch wood) :)

Now I gotta sort out my grey alloys...
