Anyone know how to identify the different models and what is different in each? As I understand it it's like this, but this is probably wrong:

Type-R - Normal release model 2001 - 2004 (0-60 6.8s)

30th Anniversary Edition - 2004 - 2005 Imporved interior, Recarro seats, Momo steering wheel, Red carpets, tinted privacy glass & 30th Anniversay decal on the rear window below the wiper arm.

Type-R 05.5YM (Face Lift model) 2004 - 2006 Recarro seats, tinted privacy glass? Changes to the engine lighter flywheel improving the 0-60 to 6.6s

have I got that all wrong?? anyone have any links about this??

cheers,

Fire.

What do you need to know?

There are 4 various CTRS

Pre Facelift
Facelift
Premier
Anivessary

Facelift models come with the lighter flywheel.

Various forums dedicated to the CTR

Civictype-r Down til next week

I'm thinkig to buy but cannot decide on brand new (if I can still get one) or second hand, if I decide second hand then I want o get the best model for the right price etc. I take it thats not the order they were released in or at least if I was to buy a new one which would it be? Are all the brand new ones face lift models with the lighter flywheel?

Pre Facelift
Facelift
Premier
Anivessary

Fire..

The Anniversary/Premier are both facelifts.

What is your budget? There have been a few CTR threads over the last few days, some recommending trying the LCR/Clio 182, etc.. before buying.

I drove them and chose the CTR as it suits my driving style, others prefer luxury and not having to rag the engine.

Anything after 2004 IIRC is a facelift. Premiers have the back window tints, momo etc...

Thanks that clears the confusion up :) .Budget is not really decided yet I could either buy a brand new one but then have to live with the (depreciation + loan interest rate)=Money wasted and the fact the prices may dip when the new 2007 model is released or 2nd hand and try and get a good model for several thousand less but run the risk of getting one that’s been abused. I currently have a 3dr Civic 1.5iLS vtec and really enjoy the drive a lot as vtec is very addictive, but it's getting old now (P reg) although it's only just passed 60k miles and has no problems appart from squeaky clutch in the 3 years I’ve owned it I would like something newer. To be honest I hate Renault's compared to Honda's they just seem to have the quality and intelligent build that Honda's have.

Cheers,

Fire.. :)

Just to bolt a few piccys in:

Externally the front & rear light-clusters are a different design, the front's being xenon's on the '04. The '04 also get's those totally rubbish indicators in the mirrors & also fog-light surrounds.
I believe performance is barely any different despite the lighter fly-wheel, although i'm sure there was also a tweak to tough up the light steering present on the pre facelift models. Then there's the cabin changes listed above.

As for comparing Honda's to Renault's, quite right a Honda should in theory be bolted together better with more reliable hardware. But that's the trade off for paying more money to buy, insure & run one.

Just to clear up some misinformation....

30th Anniversary was a pre-facelift. It ran from late 2002 to early 2003 - so they're on either 52 or 03 plates.

Facelifts ran from 53 onwards.

Premiers are 05/55/06.

None of the CTRs had or have Xenon lights. The facelifts have projectors but they aren't HID or anything.

Take it from someone who has owned both a pre-facelift and a facelift (current) CTR. ;)

Mine does :D I couldn't stand the rubbish lights

But you're right they're not a factory option.. except on the JDM models which aren't available over here except on pre-facelift imports.

How much were your lights out of interest?

I paid £250 in a group buy for a TechOne kit with 6000k bulbs, but I paid extra for Hella ballasts as I read bad things about the standard ballasts so it was for peace of mind really. One of my best mods tbh (next to the Quaife diff) - loads more light on the road which is always a good thing if you're an enthusiastic driver

Dealership I work in has some nice pre-reg 55 Premiers with factory fit Sat-Nav systems fitted for around £16K with delivery mileage.... So new they dont even have the seat covers etc off them...
