Anyone have any opinions on these specific phones?

The larger screen of the doogee is preferred, but does one have a better ROM support than the other, for example?

Any experiences?

Also, any other suggestions - £60-80 phone range? Needs good GPS, decent battery life and ideally 4G (though not absolutely necessary)

Its not going to be used as a phone, but as a timer/navigation in hill rally/racing events.

I wouldn't purchase either of those phones. In that price bracket I'd be looking at perhaps the xiaomi Redmi 3 or Redmi note 3 series tbh. Dependant in which screen size you prefer.

i'd agree, except the redmi is £120-150, so not in the same bracket.

These are 2GB Ram phones, MTK6735 SoCs (which i think are better than the other phones with MT6580 chipsets?)

Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 may be the best compromise - £100, Snapdragon 615

Hoborbuy has the Redmi 3 for 154 dollars which equates to 106 ish pounds. I personally wouldn't get a lesser brand like cubot or doogee. Up to the buyer though I guess.

i've dismissed the Cubot (low res screen) and am now trying to decide between octa core MT 6592 vs quad core (64-bit) MT6735.

Odds are this thing is gonna get trashed within a few months (dirt, vibration, moisture) so don't want to spend loads. The redmi even from the above is double what these phones cost once you factor in shipping.
