Im sure i read somewhere that photoshop cs5 needs over 1gb of gfx memory to use the gfx card to process images ?
Is this the case with professional graphics cards such as a quadro or ati firegl ? the 1gb ones are all £450 whereas for £180 you can get a 512mb one.

This is for a pc that will be used for CAD, image processing (think 32 layers of filters and tweaking on one image) etc.

Hmm I dont really know. I know that ATI use stream I think its called.

I do know that officially cuda is supported and tested with Adobe proffesional software.

Maybe have a look at the Adobe website on the software product pages for more info.

To be safe, however, I personally would stick with Nvidia for that type of stuff, and Im an ATI fan.

Hey TBL,

I believe that hardware acceleration works on both ATI and Nvidia in CS5 and you need a minimum of 896mb RAM to do it.

Just a quick google found this good write up by Adobe themselves
