If you open it you would have to shut it and possibly reopen it again in future. This may be viewed as futile and risks serious injury through RSI. As a result and to save energy, consider removing the door completely and reduce effort and handle confusion.
Alternatively, just leave whatever was in the cupboard on the floor, ensuring ease of access, reduced door wear and the handle never having to be replaced.
I believe our Prime Minister has recently condemned a comedian who chose not to use a handle when it was clearly something that should be used, but you should not let this divert you from seeking alternative cupboard solutions.
